Life, Values & Legacy: Our Chat with Tameka McGhee of Memphis

We recently had the chance to connect with Tameka McGhee and have shared our conversation below.

Hi Tameka, thank you so much for taking time out of your busy day to share your story, experiences and insights with our readers. Let’s jump right in with an interesting one: Would YOU hire you? Why or why not?
I’ve worked in the home care industry for over 22 years, holding both clinical and non-clinical roles that have shaped my ability to lead with skill, empathy, and professionalism. Through this journey, I’ve developed a deep understanding of the care continuum, the importance of quality service, and the systems that support both clients and caregivers.

But beyond experience, I would hire myself because I’m truly passionate about what I do. I have a genuine love for helping others, and I’m able to connect with people on a personal, even intimate level — meeting them where they are in life, while honoring our differences and shared humanity.

This work isn’t just a profession — it’s my calling. I believe in delivering care that not only meets physical needs but leaves a lasting, positive impact on the lives of those we serve. That kind of commitment can’t be taught — it comes from within, and it’s what I bring to my work every single day.

Can you briefly introduce yourself and share what makes you or your brand unique?
Hi I’m Tameka McGhee founder and owner of Friends and Family Circle of Love (FFCL), a non-medical home care agency committed to providing compassionate, high-quality support to seniors — delivered with dignity, comfort, and a family-first approach.

What makes our agency truly unique is the personal connection we build with every client. At FFCL, we don’t just serve — we care like family. Our brand is rooted in love, trust, and the belief that no one should face life’s challenges alone. Whether it’s distance, stressors, or changing care needs, we’re here to ensure families have the support they need, when they need it most.

With over 22 years of experience in the home care industry, I’ve combined hands-on knowledge with genuine passion to build an agency that puts people first. Today, we’re focused on expanding our reach and continuing to be a trusted resource for families and seniors in our community.

At FFCL, it’s not just about care — it’s about connection, compassion, and peace of mind.

We live by our motto: “The family you can rely on — today a friend, tomorrow family.”

Okay, so here’s a deep one: Who saw you clearly before you could see yourself?
My dad saw this path for me long before I ever did. He believed I was meant to lead and care for others through a home care agency, even when it was nowhere on my radar. Looking back, he saw my heart, my compassion, and my ability to serve with purpose. Today, I’m walking in the vision he had for me — and that belief continues to guide everything I do at Friends and Family Circle of Love.

What’s something you changed your mind about after failing hard?
There have definitely been moments when I’ve felt — and still sometimes feel — overwhelmed; times I’ve wondered if I was or am doing the right thing, or if I have the strength to keep going. But whenever I feel like giving up, I remind myself why I started: the vision my father had, the people counting on me, and the lives I know I will touch. That reminder gives me the courage to keep moving forward even when the road is challenging.

Sure, so let’s go deeper into your values and how you think. What’s a cultural value you protect at all costs?
A cultural value I protect above all else is treating everyone like family. In home care, genuine connection and respect make all the difference. At FFCL, we focus on building trust and dignity in every relationship, knowing that when people feel valued, their quality of life improves. I always strive to treat clients and their families the way I would want my own family to be treated. This principle guides everything we do and fuels my commitment every day.

Okay, so before we go, let’s tackle one more area. Could you give everything your best, even if no one ever praised you for it?
I believe in giving my best every single day, not because I’m seeking praise or recognition from others, but because I view my work as a calling—a way to serve with heart and purpose.

I am reminded of the scripture in Colossians 3:23, “Whatever you do, work at it with all your heart, as working for the Lord, not for human masters.” This verse guides me daily, encouraging me to put my whole heart into my work, knowing that the true reward comes from serving others and honoring a higher purpose.
