Life & Work with Brett Michaels

Today we’d like to introduce you to Brett Michaels.

Hi Brett, thanks for sharing your story with us. To start, maybe you can tell our readers some of your backstories.
I started wrestling 22+ years ago. It’s been a long journey but when Championship Wrestling from Memphis started running TV shows for CW30 this past February, my career has shot through the roof and I went from being known as “some local wrestler” to now the Memphis Heritage Champion for Memphis Wrestling TV and known all over the midsouth and west coast and soon to be east coast, The GunShow Brett Michaels.

Honestly, the encouragement of my three daughters and the trust of the people running Memphis Wrestling are the reason behind my success and all the big opportunities that have come my way just this year alone! Just since March, the opportunities that I’ve been blessed to have gotten to be a part of include traveling to Los Angeles for six weeks of TV production, being involved in some upcoming commercial and TV work for Nike and the Memphis Grizzlies, promotional work for local gyms and sports, and traveling to several different states to wrestle, and being featured on different billboards advertising Wrestling.

Three years ago, I broke my neck in an auto accident and I told my daughters when I healed that I’d wrestle one more year so they could go with me every time and see me do my thing. That one year has now been over 2 years and has led me to the biggest opportunities of my life and I am blessed to have my girls with me every step of the way!

Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way? Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
Injuries, pain, heartache, and loss of love for this sport had me to where I wanted to leave it and fully retire from it. But me getting through and battling all those negative things ended up leading me to all these exciting and most memorable things that are going on in my life right now.

Appreciate you sharing that. What else should we know about what you do?
The thing I am most proud of that’s the result of my career is seeing my girls enjoy what I do and see how proud they are of my accomplishments. And also being a role model to other kids that comes to these shows.

They see this side of me and when I was a kid, I met some nice wrestlers and some rude wrestlers, to this day, I remember how disappointed I was at the rude ones but I also remember how awesome it was for the nice ones that went out their way to do something as simple as giving me a high five or simply say hey kid and smile.

I always make sure to make time for kids at the shows no matter what and I make sure I share that same experience with kids now so maybe one day they will feel the same way and it will put them on a path that has them treating everyone with respect and not negatively like a lot of people are these days.

Is there something surprising that you feel even people who know you might not know about?
Been wrestling for over 22 years.

I’ve been working out in the gym for 18 years.

I am a personal trainer and have created programs for over 10 years.

I am a father to 3 daughters (ages 12, 11, and 10). They are my world and my only true happiness.
