Today we’d like to introduce you to Brittney Shelby Sessoms.
Hi Brittney, thanks for sharing your story with us. To start, maybe you can tell our readers some of your backstories.
I began the journey to health + wellness as early as I can remember, in hindsight, which they say is 20/20. Always an interested in the world and never meeting a stranger, I was often told I “couldn’t save the world by bedtime,” but I begged to differ.
The physical journey of awareness began with being overweight, borderline diabetes, borderline high blood pressure, and gut health issues.
In January of 2013, I committed the revolutionary act of taking my health into my own hands by boldly clearing out my entire kitchen and beginning the journey of unlearning and relearning cultural behaviors surrounding food.
My quest led me to food and nutrition, which led me to herbs, which led me to the sustainability of the planet, which led me back to my ancestors, divine spirit, and ultimately my life’s work + purpose.
We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
Certainly not a smooth road, but I am one of those people who place myself in the fire and thrives in the seat of discipline.
Typically, once I make a personal decision within myself, that’s it.
Unlearning is a piece of work all within itself. The discipline that relearning takes is also no easy feat, but the life you begin to cultivate for yourself makes all the perceived battles much more divine than one may have ever anticipated.
Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
Humbly and gratefully, I am all around, divinely creative, and gifted person. I have explored and engaged many expressions of those amongst my community and I am known for many of those; including music via singing, photography, herbalism + nutrition, maker of many things, and spiritual facilitation.
Currently, I am the youngest “big mama,” “madea,” or “granny: that you will ever meet who is focused on “living and being well,” via This Lentil Life, a purpose-driven wellness company, exhibition, and manifestation of my everyday life, which aims to inspire, instill, enrich, and equip individuals, families, and communities with tools that intentionally lead them back into the Earth and themselves.
I am most proud of my heart, my service, and my ability to connect with all I come into with, through immense love. I am most grateful for divine wisdom. These qualities are the highlight of all I do personally and professionally.
How can people work with you, collaborate with you, or support you?
I open certainly open to connecting on an array of things, via my website, www.thislentillife.co, or business lines, which can be found on the site.
Currently, I offer wellness consultations, guided wellness programs + meal planning, virtual grocer tours + shopping cart care, virtual kitchen cures, virtual classes, speaking engagements, herbal preparations, and assorted products.
