Today we’d like to introduce you to Cherish Green.
Hi Cherish, can you start by introducing yourself? We’d love to learn more about how you got to where you are today.
Ever since I was a little child, I was always into things that involved beauty and fashion. I held an interest in doing and creating many different things such as hair, makeup, jewelry, nails, designing clothes, blinged-out phone cases, hair accessories, etc. Out of all those interests, makeup was the only one that stuck out most to me and it became something I strongly held a passion for.
Back in 2017, I was enrolled in a makeup institute. Where I learned the basics and fundamentals of makeup, how to build clientele, make a profit, take client pictures, create a business portfolio, etc. Throughout the 10 weeks course, my love for makeup artistry grew. Once the Covid-19 pandemic hit in 2020 I started to take makeup seriously. I was laid off from my job.
Which allowed me to spend a generous amount of time at home to practice and improve my skills. Within these last 2 years, my work and my clientele have grown a lot. I’m blessed to say that now I’m a full-time makeup artist.
I’m sure you wouldn’t say it’s been obstacle free, but so far would you say the journey has been a fairly smooth road?
It wasn’t a smooth road. There were moments when I wanted to give up. I experienced a lot of discouragement. My main struggle was building clientele. There were a lot of weeks when I had 0 clients even after I promoted my work on social media weekly.
To overcome my struggle I started posting daily making Instagram reels, posting on Facebook, and staying active in the Facebook beauty service groups. Outside of social media, I have my business cards inside a few local beauty supply stores, and anytime I go out I try to pass out a few business cards and airdrop my Linktree.
Also, most of my clientele was from word-of-mouth referrals.
Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know about your work?
I’m an upcoming makeup artist. I specialize in makeup artistry. I’m known for my natural glam looks. What set me apart from others is I can be versatile in work.
Two things I’m most proud of are the bonds I have grown with my clients and the growth in my work. I love the way my clients are comfortable with me and trust the process. My goal is always to make my clients feel beautiful and confident within themselves.
We’d be interested to hear your thoughts on luck and what role, if any, you feel it’s played for you.
The role that luck has played in my life and business has been good and bad.
I remain thankful only because when you’re thankful for what you already have, you’ll end up having more. If I was ever to concentrate on what I didn’t have, I would never have enough.
