Life & Work with Erin Austin

Today we’d like to introduce you to Erin Austin.

Hi Erin, please kick things off for us with an introduction to yourself and your story.
My journey to where I am in life as well as in my career in broadcasting started right after high school in Portland, OR. From there, life has taken me to many stops along the way including Eugene, OR, Omaha, Austin, St. Louis, Milwaukee and Houston.

Most of my career had been working in Country Radio. I was blessed to interview so many Country Music stars over the years. As well as introduce them on stage.

However, in September of 2020, I was let go from my job in Houston due to corporate downsizing. That lead me to do a lot of soul searching and deciding what was the best path for me. The job search brought me to Memphis with a great opportunity of hosting Mornings alongside Ryan Anderson on FM 100.

I’m sure you wouldn’t say it’s been obstacle free, but so far would you say the journey have been a fairly smooth road?
It definitely hasn’t always been a smooth journey. Besides losing my job that I had for nearly 12 years in the middle of a pandemic, September 2020, I faced other bumps along the way. Years ago I had to navigate through a divorce. Shortly thereafter, my radio station in Milwaukee went through a format change which caused me to find another job because of it. Life has brought me other ups and downs along the way that knocked me off course for a bit. Even though each door that closed was tough at the time, it proved to be better down the road.

Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know about your work?
I host a morning show on FM 100 in Memphis. I also host a podcast called the Erin Austin Thursday Blog and Podcast, where I talk about life, relationships, and my experiences as well as observations. I think my honesty and transparency on the air and in my podcast is what sets me apart. I like to share my life experiences no matter how good or how painful.

Being relatable is something that is important to me. Something that I’m extremely proud of is all that I’ve been able to accomplish by myself. Not only in career, but also in my personal life. I love to travel and one thing that I’m proud of is all the places I’ve traveled to by myself I’ve been to 10 countries solo. In 2020, I visited Chernobyl.

Are there any books, apps, podcasts or blogs that help you do your best?
I’m big on self improvement, whether it’s mental health or something for self fulfillment. I’m really big into downloading audiobooks on Audible. That’s where I found several podcasts as well as bedtime affirmations. A website that I’m OBSESSED with for traveling and planning my trips is Tripmasters.com. Love it! With respect to my career, we always have to be in the know with what’s going on so I’m always watching the local news. Social media is a huge part of keeping up to date with what people are talking about. I also like to keep up with local events with the I Love Memphis Blog.
