Hi Galey, can you introduce yourself? We’d love to learn more about how you got to where you are today.
Hi! My name is Galey Grimes; I’m the Principal Designer and Owner of Galey Grimes Interiors. GGI is a full-service, luxury design firm offering services involving custom home builds, renovations, and home furnishings refinement.
Here’s some insight into how I landed my designer and small business owner role.
As a young girl, I used to accompany my parents on our annual neighborhood home tour in Midtown Memphis. My father was the president of our neighborhood association, and he assigned me to volunteer for the event. I will never forget this day because it sparked my passion for interiors.
Fast-forward to August 2023. My employer, mentor, and dear friend encouraged me to start my own design firm separate from hers. I appreciated her support and encouragement, but it was also a bit scary to think about starting independently from the ground up. However, with her blessing and support, I felt prepared to take on this new venture!
After obtaining my business license in August 2023, I was approached to collaborate with Chris Dickens of DickensBuilt, a well-known, affluent builder, to design a home for the 2024 Vesta Home Show. As a newly independent designer, this was an opportunity I knew I couldn’t afford to miss! Today, and always, my love of interiors, gratitude for all who have supported me, and sincere appreciation for my clients are pivotal to my dream becoming my reality.
Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?

Starting a small business from scratch hasn’t been without its challenges. Balancing the responsibilities of being a wife and mother to two young children with the demands of entrepreneurship has been quite overwhelming. However, the toughest part for GGI has been establishing our brand and making our design services known to the right audience.

How do you think about happiness?
Home is where we spend most of our time, whether we’re growing our family, hosting friends and family, or working solo on a weekday when the kids are in school. It is everyone’s sanctuary.
At GGI, our main focus is on the functions, intent, and aesthetics of your space. We always want our clients to feel at home in their homes. We are the ‘people’ designer. We intend to work with you for years to come—this is one of the best aspects of our industry! We have clients who become our friends and then become part of our design family.
