Life & Work with Geoffrey Gmane Robinson of Muscle Shoals, Alabama

Today we’d like to introduce you to Geoffrey Gmane Robinson

Alright, so thank you so much for sharing your story and insight with our readers. To kick things off, can you tell us a bit about how you got started?
GMANE is an underground rapper from a small town in the South who owns and operates Alabama Hustle Unlimited. Born Geoffrey Keith Robinson in Florence, Alabama, he made his name with the independent group/label Slave Kamp Music in the 90’s. He subsequently made the jump to Straight Off Da Chain/Select O Hits in early 2000 for the release of the critically acclaimed album “Collector’s Item”. Taking matters into his own hands, he returned to the underground rap scene with his newly formed Alabama Hustle Unlimited in 2003. Newly inspired, he worked to build an audience for himself via the internet and mixtapes.

Hailed as “The Godfather of Shoals Area Hip Hop”, GMANE has recorded over 30 albums & mixtapes, done countless features, and built such a strong audience that his work has allowed him to tour and record internationally in Malmo Stockholm and Landskrona, Sweden as well as Copenhagen, Denmark. He’s been featured in online publications such as Forbes.com, Complex and SPIN; Received mentions and written for Ozone and Murder Dog Magazines; participant of SXSW Festival (Austin, Tx); featured in the book “Gangsta Gumbo” (written by Charlie Braxton and Jean Pierre Labarthe on great southern lyricists); Curator of the Hip Hop Exhibit and Black History 2020 for the Alabama Music Hall of Fame; Lecturer on the History of Shoals Area Hip Hop with The American Music Society and the University of North Alabama; has a featured single “Relaxin”, with group G-Side, on Rockstar Games: Grand Theft Auto V. He is also the owner of Uncle G’s Gourmet Cookies, Keep Your God Up merchandise, and co-owns The Pruitt Robinson Agency (PR and multimedia) with his wife Kym.

A community advocate for the homeless and the youth, GMane serves on the board of Crossroads Community Outreach and mentored at the local Boys & Girls clubs and The RescueMeProject. He also gives to several charities and organizations advocating for the youth.

Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
There are always ups and downs in the music business.. whether they be monetary issues, traveling or dealing with “janky promoters” (lol). I just try my best to always do good business.

Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your work?
I’m an international recording artist, song writer and entrepreneur. I do music independently and have never been signed to a major label. I think that’s what I’m most proud of… being able to control and dictate my own business.
I’ve released over 30 albums and most recently released an EP with Memphis legend Big Phil (*produced for 3-6 Mafia, Project Pat, etc) titled “On the way to Church” available at gmane.bandcamp.com and most streaming platforms.
I also started my own cookie company, Uncle G’s Gourmet Cookies in 2020. The best selling Banana Pudding cookie received a 9/10 rating on Master P Reviews. You can find those on Instagram at @unclegsgourmet

How do you think about luck?
No luck at all, its 100 percent blessings. I feel like whatever is for me is for me and anything I put my mind to I can accomplish. Every day we wake up we get a chance and a choice to live positive or negative in this world… I choose positivity.
