Today we’d like to introduce you to Glynnis King
Hi Glynnis, we’re thrilled to have a chance to learn your story today. So, before we get into specifics, maybe you can briefly walk us through how you got to where you are today?
I started off coloring, tracing and drawing in grade school. I loved cartoons and before I knew it I was creating my own characters based off of vacations with family and writing stories to go with. Now I am planning to do a childrens book as being a author/illustrator was my dream job as a kid. I love to do both but for starters I’ll probably illustrate.
Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
It has not. Writers block is something but to get out of it teaching helps. The kids generate so many good ideas and as you connect with them and make yourself relatable you realize you have so much inside you already. You just needed a friendly reminder. Its like that quote by Picasso I think…our inner child is what survives as artists we only need to let them free.
Thanks – so what else should our readers know about your work and what you’re currently focused on?
So I currently teach art education courses for youth and adults at (Memphis) Arrow Creative in midtown; while also being a practicing artist. I’m sort of in that transition phase of going from parttime artist to full time. Which is chaotic but totally rewarding. I specialize in painting/drawing using oils, and soft pastels however my best works tend to be mixed media. When I get in a groove I can grab anything and just create
Can you talk to us a bit about happiness and what makes you happy?
Me. I’ve learned that no one controls your happiness except you. Dont give that power to some one else. If you create create for you…you have to fall in love and make self happy first.
