Today we’d like to introduce you to Jade Cole.
Hi Jade, please kick things off for us with an introduction to yourself and your story.
I’ve been an artist for the majority of my life, but as far as business, I’ve been creating for other people for almost a decade.
When I used to draw for fun at school or even at home, people would see my art pieces and suggest that I sell them. I tried out advertising a price list to see if anyone would contact me, and to my surprise, MULTIPLE people inquired about a personal piece. I’ve been on a roll ever since!
Can you talk to us about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way? Looking back, would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
It has been an up-and-down road over the years, but I love it! My biggest struggle was trusting that people would finish paying for what they asked me to create when I got finished.
I got to a point where deposits were mandatory, but I still worried about the remaining balance being paid because some people disappeared once I had a finished product. So, it could be iffy trusting strangers. Another struggle was learning how to price my work.
Now, I price each piece based on the timing and the materials I would need to make it a complete piece.
Appreciate you sharing that. What else should we know about what you do?
I’m an artist that specializes in portraits. I create logos, graphics, t-shirts, and murals! I’m most proud of high-end clientele wanting to have a piece from me in their home or their business and they see my worth.
I’m proud of myself for making it this far with art being my main stream of income. My creativity and style are what separates me from other artists in my city.
What were you like growing up?
Growing up, I was a little shy and observed a lot everywhere I went.
I was always interested in creating whether it was a painting, writing a book, building something, singing or writing a song, or just using the things in nature to create my little world to play in.
