Today we’d like to introduce you to Jasmine Peete.
Thank you so much for sharing your story and insight with our readers. To kick things off, can you tell us a bit about how you got started?
As an adolescent, I took an extreme interest in hair. My parents would take me to local beauty supply stores and let me purchase different products to experiment with on mannequins for fun. After high school, I chose the collegiate path but, I wasn’t feeling fulfilled. I decided after 3 years of college that I was going to pursue my passion of becoming a professional cosmetologist.
I started my cosmetology career in 2009 at Paul Mitchell the school Memphis, where I later started my cosmetology educator career 3 years later. The rest is history. I’m now in my 14th year of business and it’s so rewarding to see where I started to where I am now. I am now a salon owner in Bartlett, TN called the True Professional Salon and Spa.
I specialize in natural hair, extensions, and color. We are fully staffed with salon professionals who service a diverse clientele. I love what I do and love making women feel beautiful inside and out.
I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
There have been some ups and downs in my career. At the beginning of my career, I became pregnant with my first child and had to adjust to being a new mom and building a clientele at the same time. During Covid spending so much time out of the salon and losing money and clientele from clients just being scared to come back in close contact with people and adjusting to the ways of life.
Lastly, opening my salon was no walk in the park. During the time, I was opening my salon, my mom became ill. It was a bittersweet and stressful time because I was doing something that I wanted to do but I was so concerned about my mom. Ultimately, I lost my mom right after I opened my salon, but I took comfort in knowing that she got a chance to see it before passing.
Appreciate you sharing that. What else should we know about what you do?
I specialize in natural hair, extensions, and color. I’m most proud of my team. I take pride in knowing
I have created a relaxing, welcoming, and safe environment for them and my clients to come to. I’m big on customer service and I love making my clients feel special. I also sell Cosmetic breast lift tape which many people know me for.
What has been the most important lesson you’ve learned along your journey?
The energy you put out is what you get back in life. Don’t give up on your dream no matter how tough it gets and how long it takes.
