Life & Work with Jason Colbert of East Memphis

Today we’d like to introduce you to Jason Colbert

Hi Jason , please kick things off for us with an introduction to yourself and your story.
I’m an oil painter inspired by childhood innocence and vibrant colors. I uses a technique called colorism to evoke the inner child in viewers through his artwork. I established Life in Colors Studio in 2018 after training at Memphis College of Art. I approach is guided by Denzel Washington’s quote on commitment and consistency, reflecting my goal to transform perceptions of the world and embrace a colorful life.

Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
Starting this painting business has not been a smooth journey, but it has certainly been an entertaining one. I have experienced many lows, but more importantly, I have also enjoyed some significant highs. I’ve had the opportunity to paint for multiple organizations and share my gift throughout the city of Memphis.

Thanks – so what else should our readers know about your work and what you’re currently focused on?
I am an oil painter who draws inspiration from childhood innocence and vibrant colors. My paintings are not just a representation of what I see, but rather a portrayal of what I aspire to see. Through my technique of colorism, I aim to bring out the inner child of my viewers by blending bright paint pigments with profound life ideals.

What were you like growing up?
I was a very creative kid with a wild imagination who loved exploring and finding fun things to do. I spent the majority of my time outside, climbing trees, rolling in the grass, and staring up at the clouds, trying to find pictures in them.
