Today we’d like to introduce you to JoAnna Casey.
Hi JoAnna, so excited to have you with us today. What can you tell us about your story?
It all started back at the end of 2022. I had a coworker who was heavily pregnant and not having a good go of it. I knew how hard things were getting for her and I just wanted to do something nice for her. I decided to make her a “mommy-to be” self care basket. I filled it with some self care items so she could give herself a little pampering. It was then I realized, I had so much fun putting that together for her! I love gifting to others and from there I started making a few baskets for other coworkers and friends for different occasions and reasons. It only took me a couple weeks really to come up with “Take Care Baskets”. It started as just self care baskets but quickly turned into “gift baskets for all occasions.”
We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
It definitely hasn’t. As a small business owner, there are times you feel that the work you’re putting in isn’t producing the results you want. There’s been times where I felt that maybe I’ve made a mistake in starting this business or that it isn’t sustainable. However, those are the times when I all of a sudden receive a message with a client order or I receive an opportunity for my business. That’s when I realize that this is something that people actually want and also want to see more of. It gives me a sense of validation that this is definitely the road forward I’m supposed to take.
Appreciate you sharing that. What else should we know about what you do?
Take Care Baskets specializes in gift baskets for all occasions. I take a different approach then other gift basket companies in that I love to include the client in the process of creating a basket. I have done baskets for anniversaries, weddings, graduations, self care, get well soon and more. I love talking with the client to help get a better idea of what the recipient likes (favorite color, candy, hobbies, etc) and using that information to create a unique, and personal gift. The personal aspect is my favorite part. Sometimes, people just don’t know where to start for a gift or just don’t know how to execute it. That’s where I come in. I love to help execute that idea and help it become reality.
We love surprises, fun facts and unexpected stories. Is there something you can share that might surprise us?
I really love to sing. I’m very shy about it but I love everything about music and the arts. I played the clarinet all throughout middle and high school. I got pretty good at it and made several honor bands and made the top symphonic wind band all four years of high school. I truly enjoyed marching band and concert band. So anything music related I absolutely love!
