Life & Work with Jocelynn Jordan-Kerzner

Today we’d like to introduce you to Jocelynn Jordan-Kerzner.

Hi Jocelynn, so excited to have you with us today. What can you tell us about your story?
I am currently the President of Buzz TV Live, an expanding content distribution platform with a reach of over 1 million viewers established through the BuzzTV Android television boxes.

I am also a Juris Doctor and an alumna of the University of Memphis and DePaul University College of Law. In addition to my professional career ventures, I serve as the Assistant Director of the Miss Illinois Volunteer Scholarship Pageant, a non-profit scholarship preliminary to the Miss Volunteer America Scholarship Pageant.

While I currently reside in Chicago, Illinois, my roots run deep in Memphis, Tennessee where my family still resides. I grew up in East Memphis and graduated from White Station High School before obtaining my Bachelor of Arts degree in Political Science and Spanish from the University of Memphis.

During my undergraduate years, I worked alongside my mother in her East Memphis retail store The Shirt Place. This experience taught me foundational business skills, business management, and the work ethic and sweat that goes into owning one’s own business. At 26 years of age, I joined as a starting member of the Buzz TV Live team and assumed the role of President as I am primarily responsible for the company’s daily operations.

My abilities are enhanced and supplemented by my legal education from DePaul University College of Law where I earned my Business Certificate and focused my interest on taxation. While I now focus on business law, my prior legal experience centralized around family law and my first law school summer internship was with the Memphis firm, Chastain English.

Chastain English gave me my first exposure to high net worth divorce litigation which naturally came along with business and financial exposure; this truly drove my business law interest from its inception.

My passion for the Miss Illinois Volunteer Scholarship Pageant stems from my time in Memphis as I was the Miss Memphis Teen Princess 2011 and Miss Tennessee Teen Princess 2011. Both were affiliates of the Miss Tennessee Scholarship Organization, the state preliminary to the Miss America Organization, and under the direction of Executive Director Allison DeMarcus.

After leadership changes in the Miss America Organization, Allison DeMarcus has now implemented the Miss Volunteer America Scholarship Pageant which awarded over $150,000 in scholarships during the 2022 Inaugural pageant in Jackson, Tennessee.

As the local Memphis titleholder, I spent ages 15-16 volunteering with numerous nonprofits and educational organizations throughout the city and the state. I have now taken this experience to Illinois and am involved in a director capacity.

I am truly grateful for the community I grew up with in Memphis and would not be the woman I am today without it.

Can you talk to us about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way? Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
I believe that anyone who says their life journey is smooth is a liar.

Every experience comes with obstacles, but I am fortunate to have extremely supportive family and friends who stood by me along the way. Law school was the hardest experience of my life and being homesick alone in a new city was always a struggle.

I wish I could have traveled to Memphis more and spent more time with my family, but I am fortunate that my professional opportunities now permit me that flexibility.

Appreciate you sharing that. What else should we know about what you do?
Buzz TV Live is an expanding content distribution platform. In 2015, Buzz TV entered the market, manufacturing Android boxes to provide the best video distribution solutions. This included hardware and software technologies developed for and distributed to retail markets and small, medium, and large-scale business environments.

After years of hardware development success, the content production and distribution concept was born as Buzz TV Live. The Buzz TV boxes are currently in over 400,000 homes and businesses worldwide, predominately in North America, with a reach of over 1,000,000 viewers. Buzz TV Live is launching additional content distribution platforms, including WebTV, Mobile Application (iOS & Android), Amazon Fire Stick Application, and Roku Application.

Buzz TV Live strives to be the largest content distribution platform while specializing in live events and related on-demand content to break down the barriers between consumers and authentic and engaging content created by conventional cable and its associated networks.

At Buzz TV Live, we know that consumers want control over the content they choose to view and that conventional cable networks and providers have dictated, edited, filtered, and censored content to the point that the consumer is now being indirectly told what they should or should not watch.

We partner with unapologetic and real content creators and owners at Buzz TV Live to engage consumers across all genres, demographics, and geographical locations.

While it has always been in demand, access to real content is now at risk more than ever. Network executives have succumbed to political pressure and polarization and have been implementing programs that are censored and filtered from the truth.

Additionally, the Covid-19 pandemic has exacerbated the need for a platform that brings live events and related on-demand content to the homes of billions that cannot travel or otherwise access what they crave to enjoy. Buzz TV Live is breaking down all barriers to meet this demand.

I am grateful for the opportunity to act as the President of this Startup company and lead the team into this extremely lucrative and expanding market.

While most of our content owners know me as the point of contact for the company, I spend most of my time implementing project development plans and ensuring they are executed to the fullest potential.

What do you like and dislike about the city?
I love the food. Whenever I come home, I have a list of restaurants I must visit before leaving.

I always crave my garlic chicken from Wang’s Mandarin House, BBQ nachos from Central BBQ, tom yum soup from Bangkok Alley, pasta salad from Bogie’s Deli, cheese fries from Huey’s, and tacos from Las Delicias.

I am a creature of habit, but I cannot find anything close to cutting it when traveling for work or living in Chicago.

My mouth is watering just thinking about it, and I cannot wait to be back home to fill up on all my favorites.
