Today we’d like to introduce you to Kelsey Dye.
Hi Kelsey, so excited to have you with us today. What can you tell us about your story?
I grew up in northeast Arkansas and have always been creative, but for most of my adult life creativity took a back seat to work, family, and building a career. I currently work full-time in retail management, and for years photography and storytelling were simply things I enjoyed rather than something I considered pursuing professionally.
Earlier this year, I decided to take that passion more seriously. What started as posting photos online quickly evolved into creating full visual narratives inspired by travel, Southern culture, hospitality, music, and the small moments that make life meaningful.
Instead of focusing on traditional influencer content, I became interested in creating editorial-style campaigns that tell a story through images. Whether it’s a historic hotel, a local business, a creek in Arkansas, or a weekend road trip, I’m always looking for ways to transform everyday experiences into something cinematic and emotionally engaging.
Over the last few months, that creative approach has led to multiple publication features, brand collaborations, and opportunities I never expected would happen so quickly. Being invited to participate in this interview is one of those moments that reminds me how much can change when you’re willing to put your work out into the world.
What excites me most is that I’m still at the beginning of the journey. My goal is to build a creative business centered around storytelling, photography, travel, and marketing while proving that meaningful work can come from anywhere. Some of my favorite stories are inspired by the places I’ve known my entire life, and I hope my work encourages people to find beauty in their own everyday experiences.
We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
One of the biggest challenges has been learning to believe in myself before there was any evidence that this could become something bigger. When you’re building something creative from scratch, there are long stretches where you’re investing time, energy, and money without any guarantee that it will lead anywhere.
I also balance this work alongside a full-time career and family responsibilities, so finding time to create can be challenging. Most shoots happen on evenings or weekends, and my husband and kids are often helping me find the best light, move props, or offer feedback on a pose or composition.
Another challenge has been creating from a small town. It’s easy to feel like opportunities only exist in larger cities, but I’ve learned that creativity isn’t limited by geography. Some of my favorite work has been created in places I’ve known my entire life.
The biggest lesson has been that consistency matters more than waiting for the perfect moment. I started before I felt ready, continued showing up even when growth felt slow, and focused on improving a little with every project. Looking back, many of the opportunities I’ve received have come from simply being willing to keep creating and putting my work out into the world.
Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your work?
I am a visual storyteller and content creator specializing in editorial-style photography, hospitality marketing, travel, and Southern lifestyle narratives. While many creators focus on documenting experiences, I’m most interested in creating a feeling. Every project begins with a story, character, or emotion that I want the viewer to connect with.
What makes my work unique is that I serve as the creative director, stylist, model, producer, and marketer behind every campaign. Whether I’m creating a luxury hotel narrative, a travel story, or a lifestyle campaign, I’m involved in every step of the creative process from concept development and wardrobe planning to location scouting and final image selection.
Much of my work is inspired by Southern culture, small-town life, music, hospitality, and the beauty found in everyday experiences. I love taking ordinary moments and presenting them in a way that feels cinematic, nostalgic, and emotionally engaging.
What I’m most proud of is how quickly this journey has evolved. In just a few months, my work has been published by multiple magazines, I’ve developed partnerships with brands and hospitality properties, and I’ve begun building a portfolio that reflects the kind of creative career I’ve always dreamed of pursuing.
More than anything, I hope my work reminds people that stories don’t have to happen in faraway places to be meaningful. Some of my favorite images have been created in Arkansas creeks, small towns, historic hotels, and places I’ve known my entire life. I believe great storytelling comes from perspective, not location.
What has been the most important lesson you’ve learned along your journey?
The most important lesson I’ve learned is that you don’t need permission to begin.
For a long time, I thought opportunities would come first and confidence would follow. What I’ve discovered is that confidence is built by taking action before you know how things will turn out.
I’ve also learned that creativity has far less to do with location than people think. Some of my favorite stories have been created in places I’ve known my entire life. A creek, a small town, a historic hotel, or an ordinary morning can become something meaningful when viewed through a creative lens.
Looking back, every publication, collaboration, and opportunity I’ve received started with a simple decision: create the work first and trust that the right people will eventually find it.
