Today we’d like to introduce you to Maalik McGee.
Hi Maalik, so excited to have you with us today. What can you tell us about your story?
First, I want to thank God and my mama. Then I wanna thank the Memphis Voyager team for reaching out to me with the opportunity. To start I was born in Racine, Wisconsin. A small city that’s about 30-40 minutes away from Milwaukee. Growing up I was always into streetwear and fashion even when I couldn’t really afford anything. Just like most of us, I grew up in poverty so I never really had the latest clothes and shoes in school. One thing I did always think about was fashion sense.
Fast forward to when I found out I was having a son I decided I wanted to challenge myself and start a business, I didn’t know what I wanted to do but knew it had to be something I was into. When COVID hit the world the way it did and everything shut down I came up with a plan to start a brand. After my son was born I started to take it more seriously. I wanted him to know his dad went after his dreams and accomplished them so one day when he gets older he’s inspired to do the same.
So the stories are still being written, but today I created a global clothing brand.
Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall, and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
Any business whether small or successful is going to come with challenges. I’ll say my biggest obstacle has been myself. Life has a way of throwing us off at times, staying focused and consistent can be difficult.
I have been through a lot in my life but I know that with hard work and belief in yourself, you can get through the obstacles and shake back even stronger.

I own a clothing brand called Luvlyfe. We offer shirts, hats, jogging suits, socks, hoodies, and jackets. We got all new looks and designs that are coming soon so stay tuned. The meaning behind the brand is two acronyms merged as one. Luv stands for Live Ur Visions and Lyfe stands for Live Your Faith every day.
Every day you should be determined to go after your dreams and goals that you see yourself accomplishing. Part of achieving success is seeing yourself in those successes so which means standing firm in your beliefs and morals. All the things that keep you true to yourself. My family and my son are also one of the biggest inspirations behind the brand.
Can you share something surprising about yourself?
Most people didn’t know about my creative side until later in life. I always loved arts and drawing, and coming up was one of my favorite things to do. some of my work was even featured in art shows and museums. I’m a creative person I’ve designed and come up with every look in the brand myself.
Most were off of my iPhone. I’ve worked with only one graphic designer before. He’s from Racine too you can find him on Facebook @ Jay Lashuant., I drew the logo and sent it to him he brought it to life so shout out to him.
