Life & Work with Mallory Shields

Today we’d like to introduce you to Mallory Shields.

Hi Mallory, thanks for joining us today. We’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
Hi, my name is Mallory Shields. I am a photographer born and raised in Memphis, TN. I’ve always had a vision and an eye for things and was always one to pick up a camera when it came to family gatherings or events that I felt needed to be documented and remembered.

Being a photographer in Memphis has been a really great experience. Memphis is a melting pot of all different kinds of people and walks of life. It’s so amazing to get to connect with folks in the community through photography.

Whether it be a birthday, a maternity photoshoot, a prom send-off, or just a model wanting to upgrade their portfolio… I’m your girl! Well, photographer… since it is a male-dominated industry my woman clients feel relieved that I can capture some of their most beautiful moments while they are in intimate settings like maternity photoshoots or boudoir.

With the experience of three and a half years and counting, I would love to expand my reach within the Memphis area along with Southaven, MS to continue to reach people and make their visions come to life via photographs. I am dedicated and excited to bring creative ideas to life

Mallysphotography – where we catch your greatest moments in color.

Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
When I first started photography, I initially wanted to be a YouTuber. I purchased my first camera (well, what I thought was my first camera) on Twitter through a guy who claimed to have discounts but I ended up getting scammed. He sent me a Canon camera bag full of rocks. I couldn’t believe it. I saved up AGAIN and bought my camera through an official trusted website after learning that hard lesson.

Once I got my camera and started the business, studio lighting was quite the challenge when I began but I have grown to love it and be just as comfortable as I am with outdoor photography.

Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
I’m known in Memphis for being a photographer that specializes in capturing any event or milestone a person may experience.

Is there anyone you’d like to thank or give credit to?
I owe it all to God. He has been my biggest drive to keep striving. Also, my good friend Larshay Watson has inspired me to learn more about studio lighting and studio photography his name on Instagram is @vessellkwatson!
