Hi Mia, can you start by introducing yourself? We’d love to learn more about how you got to where you are today?
Hi! My name is Mia Kelly. I am a Memphis, TN native and the founder of The empowHER, a social club for women looking for a community to help navigate their journey of womanhood. I started my brand in 2019, after I found my purpose, which is helping other women find their purpose, overcome heartbreaks, and discovering ways to become HER in their own way. In college, I suffered depression and a heartbreak, and just didn’t know who I was. I fasted for a few months for God to reveal my purpose and heal my hurt. And he did just that. Creating this community helps me to become the woman I needed back in college when I was lost, which is my main goal. I curate and host events for women to come together and just take a break from their day to day life, their struggles, and anything in between. I view it as a “pass time.” But not only are we “passing time”, we are healing our traumas along the way. I value girl time and girl talk. This community will help you connect with like minded women and help you become HER as you navigate through your life’s journey.
We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
It has not been a smooth road of course, every business and brand have downfalls. I feel like imposter syndrome gets the best of me sometimes. Even being perceived on social media makes me not want to post my content. So fear is definitely one of my biggest struggles, but I believe in myself and my brand so much, I don’t have a choice but to keep going!
Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know about your work?
I am known for curating cute, girly events where we come together as a community. We have done events like Prosecco and Pilates, A cocktail soiree’, Boxing and Bellinis, etc. After each event, we sit down and discuss topics that we are all going through and just chit chat! I also have merch, that is like a walking reminder that you are HER. So each piece I drop, says “HER” on it. If you’re feeling sad or insecure, put on my merch to remind yourself of who you are! Which is why my brand is called The empowHER.
What makes you happy?
Omg! Helping people in ALL aspects makes me the happiest. Truly. I get a thrill out of just guiding people, giving advice, being a shoulder to cry on, and just being their for others. So I guess giving. It is so pure seeing others smile! I am a vessel for God.
