Life & Work with SaDarius Swansey

Today we’d like to introduce you to SaDarius Swansey.

Hi SaDarius, so excited to have you on the platform. So before we get into questions about your work-life, maybe you can bring our readers up to speed on your story and how you got to where you are today?
Well, if I’m going, to be honest, this choice of business was kinda different to me because I came to Memphis in late 2019, I didn’t know anyone except my family that I had here. I started working at this club out here, not going to name-drop but they definitely gave me the behind-the-scenes look at what hookah adds to an environment ya know.

So, boom, one day, I was helping my aunt, and she showed me how to set up a hookah and mix it like the basics really, I really didn’t know anything about hookah, but after that, I just started to do my own thing back there and eventually started to enjoy the craft of the hookah scene, to be honest. Fast forward to when COVID struck, I ended up getting the boot from the establishment but from there I realized I wasn’t meant to work for anyone on a serious note.

So HookahBruthaUp was born afterthoughts of “what is something that’s isn’t being done for real,” a mobile hookah service, (or mobile Hookah caterer if you must) but I realized my niche was the style of hookahs I bring, with the custom mixes I provide 1:1 like I really my goal with this whole business is add another line of entertainment into the industry like yes, Hookah is known amongst a wide variety, but it’s many of people that doesn’t understand how much fun Hookah can add to really any type of situation, party or event.

I’m trying to be known as Mr. entertainment in this hookah world with a new way of enjoying hookah in your comfort zone, with some style of course.

Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
The struggles are always a thing, nowadays I’d say Is not being on top of my social media presence, not really having that eye of the public just yet.

My biggest struggles are mental I’d say because knowing what you want to do is definitely a part of the battle but constantly staying on top of your own craft and trying to find a way to keep the relevance, keeping the motivation when things don’t go the way you planned or thought they would, keeping that drive to know that this is only apart of the journey and not the final destination is really why I continue.

I know I’m meant to do something great for myself and my family so I’m trying to keep my overcome mentality.

As you know, we’re big fans of you and your work. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about what you do?
Well, I am a mobile hookah service is what I’d consider myself, meaning I come to your event or party get together whatever you want to classify and I set up my table and handle all things hookah that needs to be done. I come with various hookahs that are more showstoppers, a showpiece for entertainment.

That’s really what gets the eye once they see what hookahs I have and the ones I’m looking to get will most definitely be the difference between me and others jumping in this line of business. I personally look at this brand as a mobile one-stop-shop for your hookah needs, I can cater your party with hookahs, I mix my own shisha (flavored tobacco) so the mixes always match the vibe, your vibe, his vibe, her vibe anyone that try’s a mix of mine becomes a fan of the flavor that they’re presented with, even coals, tips if you’d like to just purchase a hookah individually.

What makes me most proud about this business is that I’m in a lane that I can mold to my liking, I can try things and experiment with things as I grow as a brand and as a brand owner. New land gives more opportunities to discover what it is you actually have. Hookahbruthaup does more than sell hookahs.

The crisis has affected us all in different ways. How has it affected you and any important lessons or epiphanies you can share with us?
I’ve learned many lessons due to COVID actually, the biggest one is no matter what you do always prepare for the what-if. The what-if can come in whatever form water can hold if you catch my drift.

COVID taught me that life will take a turn in another direction, but that direction change might not have been for the worse, so keep the faith because obviously, something is working in other ways for you that you don’t understand just yet.
