Hi Vee, please kick things off for us with an introduction to yourself and your story.
Hi, my name is Valerie but I go by Vee Fleek. I have been in the makeup industry business for over 5 years! I have a passion for makeup and I feel that is what has kept me going. I am a self-taught MUA and my passion ignited from youtube! I then branched off to doing Live on Facebook.
I would teach everything from the basics to more intermediate makeup looks. Over the years I developed my skills and became known as the girl who slays a cut crease lol! All in all, I love being able to slay faces it truly brings me joy!
We all face challenges, but would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
It most definitely hasn’t been a smooth road over the years. I have given up the idea of my dream not coming true. It went from me only having 3 views on makeup tutorials to me losing my shop after not having enough clientele but overall I saw the vision so I persevered.
I would say the biggest struggle would be in my own head. Social media has placed the concept of your views or your interactions equal your success when that is not necessarily true. You have to keep going even when you feel as though no one is looking.
As you know, we’re big fans of you and your work. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about what you do?
I specialize in makeup I am MUA. MUA stands for “makeup artist.” I like to consider myself flexible so whatever look that someone may need I can accomplish. I am known mostly for cut creases in the makeup world it’s basically a dramatic eye shadow look. I am most proud of being able to teach myself what I know and being open to learning more.
I like to consider myself authentic by me just being me.
Any advice for finding a mentor or networking in general?
The thing that has worked mostly for me is having tunnel vision. You cannot criticize yourself based on someone else’s success or how things may look on social media you have to be in the business for your own personal gain and for your own accomplishments.
