Hi AJ, thanks for sharing your story with us. To start, maybe you can tell our readers some of your backstory.
I grew up in a music loving household. My dad was a DJ and my mom had a passion for music too. When I was younger I would carry my dad’s record crates around whenever we moved and I use to be amazed by all the different records. Naturally after being around it my whole life I turned to music and decided to write music. First song I ever wrote was with my cousin, Carlos, and let’s just say it wasn’t that great lol. I continued to write until I was around 17 years old when I took a friend trip to Atlanta and recorded my very first song in a basement studio. I fell in love with it and have been making music since.
Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
The process of recording is the easy part lol. I guess the only issue I have is balancing everyday life with my artist life. Like I have to focus on so many other things that music kinda gets put on the back burner. That being said when I find my groove I can write and record a album in a month.

I am a Memphis based artist/rapper known by AJ Ca$h. I make music and I think what makes my music unique is I try to inspire people to go be better through hard work and hustle. People tell me all the time they listen to my music before or during work. I’m super proud of my musical progression over the years and the creativity of my style. If I’m being honest I feel like I made better music when I first started but it’s all good to me lol.
Networking and finding a mentor can have such a positive impact on one’s life and career. Any advice?
I never really had a mentor when it came to music but I have worked with a lot of different artists. Every interaction with people will be different so don’t shy away from working with people because of less than ideal situations. I have my good and bad stories but I still am willing to work with anyone who wants to work with me.
