Hi Akilah , we’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
I started my business February 2022. As a registered Respiratory therapist who had just fought to save lives from the many deaths of COVID, I wanted to help people in a more positive way. Microshading is my number one seller which is a cosmetic tattoo to the eyebrows for more permanent solution. This technique brings so much joy to others because truly when you look good, you feel good. Microshading has allowed me to be creative, uplift, and embrace the beauty of women and men of all color and race. Three years in business and I’m still just as excited about it as I was when I first started.
We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
My biggest challenge has always been marketing. I’m not an expert and learning everything by your self , you loose a lot of money if marketing isn’t set up properly. Because my services are long term, most of clients I only see 1-2 years. So in order to keep the business thriving, I choose to run paid ads to reach new people. Learning the different skin types such as oily, dry, mature skin, thin skin, or even larger pores, only time and experience can teach you this. This was difficult as a beginner, but now I’m

Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know?
Pmu LaTruth ( Pmu) is abbreviated for permanent makeup . Permanent makeup is cosmetic tattooing tailored to each client to enhance their look for long term purposes. I offer Microshading which is for the eyebrows, nano strokes which are similar to hair strokes for the eyebrows, tattoo eyeliner, lip blush/ lip neutralization to enhance the color of the lips, scalp micropigmentation for those suffering from receding hairline, thin edges, bald spots, or thinning, and last is scar/stretchmark camouflage to lessen the appearance of that area by placing the matching skin color inside that scarred area. All face procedures are used with numbing cream. Although this is cosmetic tattooing, it’s slightly different from traditional tattooing. This is a softer approach and build up to get the most natural results. This is why more than one session is needed over a period of weeks at a time. Most services need at least two sessions. What would you say have been one of the most important lessons you’ve learned?
The biggest lesson learned is that patience is key for myself as well as the clients. Educating clients on the front end instead of having them guess later is also very important, I’ve also had to learn that in business it will be up and down and that’s ok. Just continue to focus on my passion and why I started in the first place.
