Meet Anthony Mitchell Jr.

Today we’d like to introduce you to Anthony Mitchell Jr.

Hi Anthony, we’re thrilled to have a chance to learn your story today. So, before we get into specifics, maybe you can briefly walk us through how you got to where you are today?
Roughly 25 years ago, I began volunteering with our youth ministry, as well as several student organizations such as SkillsUSA that focused on leadership and community service. From there we have been a part of multiple campaigns which include Habitat for Humanity, Red Cross and Big Brother Big Sister. Currently, I have a partnership with the Sky Is The Limit Ministries where I serve as a Co Youth Pastor with my wife, and the Eric Matthews Foundation, which provides free NFL Youth camps in the Memphis area. I also serve as a Staff Sgt in the Memphis Air National Guard.

Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
Definitely hasn’t been a smooth road. Mississippi is not a hotbed for the production of young black leaders. In 2000, experienced the death of a really close friend that had lasting effects

As you know, we’re big fans of you and your work. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about what you do?
I wear multiple hats. The first is as a Commercial Roofing Inspector with Duro Last Roofing, Inc. The 2nd is as an Avionics Technician with the Air National Guard. The 3rd is as a father and husband. I am proud of being able to segue each of these platforms into giving back to our community. Striving to be a positive example for kids has been a driving force for all we do.

Is there any advice you’d like to share with our readers who might just be starting out?
One thing I wish I knew starting off, is how important consistency, internal motivation, patience, and the unwavering belief in oneself is. Wherever you are trying to go in life takes time and there are no shortcuts there.
