Meet Barbara Joy

Today we’d like to introduce you to Barbara Joy.

Hi Barbara, please kick things off for us with an introduction to yourself and your story.
Hello, my name is Barbara Ann Joy. My friends call me Joy, but my family calls me B. I am 27 years old. Birthday, June 20th, 1994. I was born and raised in Chicago, Illinois. I was adopted at 9 months old, by a loving couple who turned out to be the best parents a child could ask for. Sadly, though, when I was 12 my father died from lung cancer ten days before my birthday. Ever since then, it was me and my mother.

Life went on, I got older, and so did my mom. My parents were in their late 50s when they adopted me. Throughout my life, I have been through some very sad and dark moments. Currently, I am going through a very sad time. I lost my mother in December of 2021 to Covid. This is one of the hardest moments of my life.

My mom used to say, “just pray and ask God to guide you through whatever it is you’re going through.” I have been doing a lot of praying lately. Not only prayer but eating healthy, self-love, meditation, stretching, breathing exercises, etc. But the one thing that I love the most is creating content on Instagram and lately TikTok.

I love to cook, video games, and sometimes share opinions or thoughts on social media. A new hobby that I recently discovered is studying music. As far as the breakdown of songs, lyrics, etc.

I’ve come a long way from being a shy little girl to this mature young woman who is not afraid to share her opinions, thoughts, hobbies, and intense love for all things positive.

I love living in Memphis because of all the different food options and of course the hospitality. People in Chicago are not as friendly. My goal this year is to allow myself to be more open. I want to create more content for everyone to see. I especially want to focus more on taking food pictures. Food seems to be the connection to everyone coming together. I also am leaning towards starting a podcast on topics that mean something.

I’ve got to where I am today by keeping positive praying up and being myself 24/7. And of course, my mother’s guidance helped me along.

Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
No, it hasn’t been an easy road. Growing up, I was very shy and timid. Over the years, I developed anxiety. I am finally getting a hold of it. Anxiety has caused a lot of problems and setbacks for me.

Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know about your work?
I am currently a CSR for Bank Of America. I take pride in my job because I love helping people. My job requires undivided attention and empathy. I specialize in the protection of each card holder’s funds and account information.

What matters most to you?
The thing that matters to me most in life, is my and my family’s happiness.
