Hi Cam, thanks for sharing your story with us. To start, maybe you can tell our readers some of your backstory.
Straight Drop Seafood Memphis was established in 2020 by Cam Special. Equipped with a special recipe created by Chef Yamani, who started the Straight Drop franchise in Fayetteville,NC with three hundred dollars and a prayer, went on to make millions. He then tossed the Special sauce recipe to Cam Special and the rest is HIStory. Cam is no stranger to the business world. He has several businesses under the his belt , and Straight Drop wouldn’t be any different. His work ethic, dedication and sheer intellect made Straight Drop a success as well as a staple in the North Memphis community. His brand continues to dominate the restaurant industry with affordable prices and innovative ideas. During the summer months he kept the lines cool by giving his customers Vior Water, which is yet another successful business which established in 2016, Vior Alkaline Water now ships worldwide to quinch the thirst of all Americans. In 2022 he joined forces with Memphis platinum selling artist Moneybagg Yo & Nless Entertainment to further the brand Globally . Last but not least his newest restaurant, Bandos, opened the summer of 2023. Bandos is located across the street from Straight Drop Seafood. He is a firm believer in building the community . He wants to create jobs for those in the community and empower future generations to do the same.
Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
In the world of business, there are always ups and downs. I began my journey with no experience, and entering the restaurant industry has its challenges. However, through dedication, determination, and my strong work ethic, I believe I have now mastered the craft.
As you know, we’re big fans of you and your work. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about what you do?
I manage two restaurants, handling all aspects of operations and paperwork, while also running and promoting a water company. In addition, I have a background in music and gained recognition for releasing a hit song. I’m proud to have the ability to help others succeed and support their families. What truly sets me apart is my relentless hustle.
Can you talk to us about how you think about risk?
I’m definitely a risk-taker. I had never owned or managed a restaurant or a water company before, but I took the leap and went for it. I truly believe that if I set my mind to something, I can achieve it. As a risk-taker, I embrace the challenge. I love stepping outside my comfort zone, because the only way to succeed is to face discomfort—and that’s absolutely true.
