Today we’d like to introduce you to Daija Tyms.
Hi Daija, please kick things off for us with an introduction to yourself and your story.
Hello, my name is Daija Tyms.
I am a local Memphis MUA I’m 20 years old, I started my business professionally in 2019. I have always had a passion for the beauty industry, I had an experience in a shop since I was 6 years old.
My first passion was nails, I was about 7/8 years old when I used to live to paint all my family members’ nails, unfortunately, in 2010, I became very sickly at a young age. I discovered I had aplastic anemia which is the disease of the born marrow, my experience was very painful at first but I managed to remain strong and survive.
My talents to had remain then as I used to do all of my nurse’s nails I used to have the lined outside my door! , as the years went on my mom signed me up for cosmetology in high school, where I learned a lot and gained a lot of experience, my cosmetology teacher was the best, even though my interest was not to be a hairstylist.
She managed to put me in esthetician competitions that I enjoyed so much; I also got a chance to win multiple mail competitions as well!
Basically, learning the esthetician study started my love for makeup, I love everything about the skin, and I love to learn new things every single day about different types of skin. So, I took my passion seriously in 2021 and attend Gould’s Academy which was one of the best decisions I ever made.
Being so young created a lot of doubt about where I would be in life, I got a chance to live my life again, and it almost got taken from me, since 2010, I decided to live my life to the fullest and share my story with others.
We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
It hasn’t been a smooth road; every successful business will almost be had bumps along the way it’s how you handle them. My father has always told me “you have to crawl before you can walk” and I apply that quote to my everyday living no matter what.
I’m having pains, aches, and being sickly almost every day put a strain on my career to the where I had to stay home some days.
I had to rest most and I hated it because it was limited to what I can do in my daily life, that’s where my depression came in but no matter what it was no matter how bad I was feeling I never gave up I continue to apply myself I’m everything I do, I never sold myself short because I’m worth a lot.
Thanks – so what else should our readers know about your work and what you’re currently focused on?
I am a freelance makeup artist; I specialize in enhancing the skin. I am known for my beautiful makeup work I post daily on social media when I gained a lot of my popularity for my work.
I am so proud of myself for never giving up, for continuing to come up with ideas for my business, and for keeping up with trends, and I’m so proud of myself for getting myself out there at a young age. I believe what sets me apart from others is what drives me in life.
I have got this question asked me when I was at a college fair and he asked “What drives you every day?“ My answer was pretty simple to me but unordinary to them since I was 16 at the time! But what drives me every day is positive, me being a positive person and a good person to others without that how can you on one life?
Are there any apps, books, podcasts, blogs, or other resources you think our readers should check out?
My favorite YouTube influencer is Aaliyah Jay, I would say most of my knowledge came from her, that’s who inspired me the most or who I get my ideas.
