Today we’d like to introduce you to David Gardner.
Hi David, so excited to have you on the platform. So before we get into questions about your work-life, maybe you can bring our readers up to speed on your story and how you got to where you are today?
I’m a DJ out of Memphis, TN. I got my start djing while in college at UTC. In my early days, I started doing college parties for the Greeks at my school. This led me to do some of the top clubs and events in the Chattanooga area. After leaving college, I returned to Memphis with a mission to take my skills to the next level.
I teamed up with my brother, and we threw parties with AEI Ent. we hosted many parties over the city, but our biggest event was putting close to a thousand college kids in the Plush Nightclub every Friday night. After a year and a half of doing this, the club was closed, and I decided to move back to Chattanooga for school to try and finish.
Being in Chattanooga put me where I was traveling to Nashville, Knoxville, and Atlanta every week doing events and networking. Doing this, I linked with artists such as Rocko, Future, Two Chainz, Young Thug, Bankroll Fresh, The Migos, and many others. I was also able to work with street execs and died major concerts they had in all with some of the top DJs in the game. Doing Shows and Clubs led me to do events with artists from all over, including DMX, Lil Boosie, Young Dolph, Yo Gotti, Trina, and Rick Ross.
While doing this, I worked with my older brother DJ Q. He was just a radio DJ then, and he would help me get around all of the major artists in Memphis and visit the city. This helped to grow my brand, and the name recognition I got from doing work all over Tennessee helped put me around the movers and shakers in the city doing some of the biggest events, from Yo Gotti B-day bash concerts to doing some of the biggest clubs in the town alongside the best promoters and DJs in Memphis.
During this time, I also was able to join a tour that had me djing in 30 cities over ten states with an artist named Winter Time. Back in Memphis, myself, Memphis Meeks, and DJ Q would do some of the biggest events in the city under their company Chose Gang Ent. we would and still host listening parties for the biggest artist in the game.
While doing some of the biggest parties like DJ Q b bash, the last one had Young Dolph and Rick Ross performing live. Currently, I DJ as a mix show DJ at Hot 107.1, and I am a member of the best DJ crew in the game, the CORE DJs. I Still travel and DJ all of the states of Tennessee, doing a lot of events in Chattanooga and Memphis.
Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way? Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
the road to where I’m at wasn’t all smooth.
I’ve had to deal with an artist who didn’t want to do the work but blame the team for lack of success. Dealt with janky promoters who wouldn’t have all the money or just would leave early and not pay at all. You deal with having great events that were ended early by fighting and drama. Long nights of sleeping in cars on the road and trash hotels.
To be honest, I wouldn’t have it any other way because the good and the bad is what made it all worth it
Appreciate you sharing that. What else should we know about what you do?
I do a lot of work in event planning and concerts. I DJ so that’s playing music at events such as clubs concerts radio and weddings. I also work with companies and help with marketing and branding. I do this for artists and event planners as well. I also host mixtapes and curate playlists for myself and others.
Can you talk to us a bit about happiness and what makes you happy?
I get happiness from seeing the ones I love the happiest. also making people have a good time while playing music or hosting events. Just doing what I can to put a smile on the face of others is where I truly find happiness.
