Today we’d like to introduce you to Ebony Hooper.
Alright, so thank you so much for sharing your story and insight with our readers. To kick things off, can you tell us a bit about how you got started?
I’ve always wanted to be a hairstylist since the age of 4. I started to work on my craft in high school learning as much as I could. Once I graduated high school, I went to cosmetology school and it unlocked a special feeling inside of me. Hair became my whole life, there wasn’t a day that I wasn’t perfecting my craft or learning from others.
After cosmetology school, I became a mom although I didn’t stop doing hair it did take me time to become licensed because life just took over and I was so focused on working to provide for my son.
In 2017, my grandmother passed away and she was really my biggest influence with my craft, she always supported me and provided me with products and tools that I needed to succeed. When she died I decided that I had to do whatever it took to get licensed and become a professional hairstylist. I became licensed within the same year and never looked back! With that being said always follow your dreams no matter what life throws your way!
Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way? Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
I struggled with being consistent, some days, I would want to give up but I realized nothing comes easy, and if you want something bad enough you have to fight for it.
Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your work?
I specialize in natural hair care, silk presses, and braids. I feel the number one thing that sets me apart is that I actually care about the client’s hair.
So maybe we end on discussing what matters most to you and why?
Creating a warm and welcoming atmosphere for my clients.
