Today we’d like to introduce you to Gary Revel. Them and their team share their story with us below:
Playing poker, in a Southern juke-joint, is not the typical activity of a 10 year- old boy, but for Gary Revel it was. His mother owned and operated, Marie’s Place, in Niceville, Florida, where the young Gary learned to play poker.
His mother and father had divorced when he was 5. Music became a friend and he formed his first Rock & Roll band when he was 15. After graduation from Holmes Country High School in Bonifay, Florida he enlisted in the United States Navy. His congressman, US House of Representative Robert Sykes, had tested him for nomination to the US Naval Academy, but, Gary enlisted prior to the nomination could be made. This was during the Vietnam War, with 2 brothers already serving in Vietnam, Gary was anxious to get into the fight.
His years, in the US Navy, prepared him for more dangerous work later on. He was Honorably Discharged and Hollywood, California called, then New York, Memphis, Nashville, and back again to Hollywood. He lived in Hollywood and Los Angeles California for over 30 years. He wrote and recorded the song “They Slew the Dreamer”. The new mix dropped recently and is bringing new light to the subject of the assassination of Martin Luther King Jr.
Along the way, Gary investigated the assassination of Martin Luther King Jr. in association with the US Government’s HSCA – House Select Committee on Assassinations. Danger, intrigue, and murder followed as he began to unravel the truth and connections between the killing of MLK, JFK, RFK, and more. A movie is being developed based on Gary’s investigations.
The screenplay is written by Frank Burmaster and Gary Revel and film-maker, Jeff Olm is executive producer.
I’m sure you wouldn’t say it’s been obstacle-free, but so far would you say the journey has been a fairly smooth road?
In the midst, of one of my investigations, I was handed a glass of pink champagne, laced with a deadly concoction that almost cost my life. I woke up the next day, lying beside a busy highway, and somehow got back to the base, where I was stationed; COMTRAPAC, (Command Training Pacific Fleet) and ASWTB (Anti-Submarine Warfare Training Base), San Diego, California.
While waiting for a ride to the hospital, I was later informed, I fell on my face and had a seizure. I awoke, later in the hospital, after having suffered an assault, in the emergency department of the hospital. The doctor, who was under investigation, was trying to get information from me, details of the investigation.
This is one. of several close calls, that brought me to the precipice of death. I worked in counterintelligence and drug interdiction, years before, I began my work investigating the assassinations of MLK, JFK, and RFK.
Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
Along with my covert work, I was also a singer/songwriter, performing solo and as a lead singer in music groups, working gigs and concerts from New York City to LA, California.
I was associated with the development and production of the documentary, The Last of the American Hobos, released in the early 1970s. The movie was a mainstay at the annual Hobo Convention in Britt, Iowa, for many years. I have authored or co-authored several books; “To Live or Maybe Not”, “Don’t Stop Dancing: Stranger than Fiction”, “Grempk”, “Milestones”, and more.
I am developing and executive-producing movies as well as writing some of the screenplays. Several of the movies are part of the Gary Revel Investigations Franchise. Those include; “They Slew the Dreamer: MLK-The Gary Revel Story”, “One Day in November”, “Assassinations Inc.”, “Red Polka Dot Dress”, “King of the Little People”, “Don’t Stop Dancing”, “Khashoggi”, “The Dead and the Voiceless”, and “To Jodi with Love”.
Risk-taking is a topic that people have widely differing views on – we’d love to hear your thoughts.
Not only, has risk-taking been an important part of my overall way of life, but it continues to be a necessary part of the fulfillment of my activities.
Recently, while riding a bicycle, I collided with a moving car, causing a broken hip and some other injuries. That day, when I decided to ride my bicycle, I was allowing the risk of an accident, as part of that decision.
None of us can live a life where there are no risks involved in our everyday and night, life processes. It’s just something that comes with living.
