Meet James Hogan of MidSouth Ponds

Today we’d like to introduce you to James Hogan

Hi James, it’s an honor to have you on the platform. Thanks for taking the time to share your story with us – to start maybe you can share some of your backstory with our readers?
I started out my business as a part time hustle while working full time with the Shelby County Sheriff’s Office. As time went on the business side grew and we went from ‘Cutting Grass” to creating backyard Staycation Destinations for our Clients as we only specialize in Custom designed and built Wate Features. As we have grown over the past few years, we have had some great opportunities to give back to the community. This year we started out in the spring building an outdoor classroom Ecosystem Pond for the Students of Keystone Elementary School and then we were given the privilege to donate a pond to the 2024 St. Jude Dream Home in Arlington TN. We are on a mission to be the Mid Souths most known pond company that not only does it for you but will educate so you can do it yourself if you so desire.

Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
It has not always been easy. Shortly after we going to focus primarily on ponds and water features, we were hit with 2008 and the aftermath of the Economy and Housing market. We have learned from that experience and have been able to apply that knowledge in the most recent days.

Appreciate you sharing that. What should we know about MidSouth Ponds?
MidSouth Ponds specializes in Koi Pond, Fountain and Water Features is the only Master Certified Aquascape Pond Contractor in the Midsouth area. The thing that sets us apart from other companies is the amount of training and education our team receives every year. I have been given the unofficial name “The MidSouth Pond Dude” due to our abilities to handle our clients pond issues. We are a Design and Build company for water features and we offer a full maintenance package to take care of your pond after it is built.

We all have a different way of looking at and defining success. How do you define success?
I would define success as being able to do the thing you love and not only get paid for it but to be able to have a business that employes over 9 people to support their families and live the life they want. As one of my favorite Mentors Zig Ziglar always said “If you help enough people get what they want, you will get what you want”.
