Today we’d like to introduce you to Jason Anderson
Hi Jason, please kick things off for us with an introduction to yourself and your story.
Born in the heart of the Mississippi Delta and raised in Grenada, Mississippi, Jason Anderson is a testament to the power of faith, community, and a robust educational foundation. Guided by his parents, Dr. Eddie and Cerita Anderson, both first-generation graduates, Jason internalized the values of achievement and collective progress from an early age. The principle that registered the most with Jason though was one community and collective responsibility to elevate mankind. Jason’s father began his professional career as a teacher and spent hours after school tutoring students for free and was a youth league coach for 18 years sometimes being the primary male figure in many kids lives and ensuring they had the guidance and structure they needed to succeed. Jason’s mother was also an educator and over the youth ministry where she fed and counseled hundreds of kids throughout his childhood.
Jason carried this mindset of service and collective responsibility through life and became a Spring 2013 initiate of Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity Incorporated, the world’s oldest collegiate Black Greek-letter organization, boasting esteemed members such as Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. and Chief Justice Thurgood Marshall. He earned his bachelor’s degree from Delta State University and an MBA from The University of Memphis. By 21, he had already made history as the youngest Black quality engineering supervisor at Lennox International Incorporated. In 2017, his community engagement initiatives earned him the Corporation’s prestigious Pacesetter Award.
In 2020, Jason took on the role of Executive Director at the Better Mississippi Foundation, where he managed a bipartisan board dedicated to social and economic advancements. His notable achievements include orchestrating a Juneteenth forum focused on socio-economic uplift, featuring influential figures from Tougaloo College, regional non-profits, local law enforcement, and Joe Biden’s Director of African American Engagement, Trey Baker.
In 2021, Judge Carlos Moore, founder of A Better Mississippi Foundation and the first Mississippi resident to lead the National Bar Association, appointed Jason as the Director of Community Engagement. Driven by a mission to inspire generational wealth, Jason now serves as CEO of “The Dream Commission LLC” in Memphis, Tennessee. He spearheads strategic financial literacy programs designed to educate, inspire, and empower minority communities and college students. The 2023 Juneteenth Dream Summit Weekend, held at the National Civil Rights Museum and Renasant Convention Center, drew over 800 attendees and earned national acclaim from ForbesBLK, MSN, iHeartRadio, and regional media.
In 2024, Jason’s Dream Commission, in collaboration with HBCU LeMoyne Owen College, launched the nation’s first financial literacy reading fair competition, a model he envisions being adopted nationwide to foster generational wealth through early education.
This carried over to The 2024 Juneteenth Dream Summit, with over 1,200 attendees, featured national leaders including:
Alphonso David: Former President of the National Humanities Council and current President and CEO of the Global Black Economic Forum for Essence Magazine.
Jane Oates: Former Assistant Secretary of Labor under President Obama.
Tamira Chapman: Forbes Advisory Council Member and Ernst & Young’s 2023 Entrepreneur of the Year.
Marcus Hill: Real estate expert and newly appointed 2024 Forbes Advisory Council Member.
Hope Goins: Senior congressional policy expert and best-selling author.

Jason’s accolades include being named to the Memphis Business Journal’s 2024 Top 40 Under 40, the 2023 Memphis Urban Elite 40 Most Influential Memphians Under 40, and receiving the 2023 Presidential Lifetime Achievement Award signed by President Joseph R. Biden for his outstanding volunteer service to the United States.
Jason believes that “Our job as Dreamers is to guide others to the door of their aspirations and inspire them to be courageous enough to walk through it. We are the architects of history, and in our hands lie the profound responsibility of legacy”
I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
The greatest challenge I’ve faced in helping others achieve their dreams is accessing existing information within our nation. Many people, regardless of race, lack knowledge about how their 401(k)s work, the principles of compound interest, investing, and trading. This is especially true in my home state of Mississippi. It wasn’t until one of my bosses retired at 42 and explained these concepts to me that I began to understand. Another boss introduced me to books like “Rich Dad Poor Dad,” which changed my mindset and outlook on economic possibilities.
Towards the end of his life, Dr. King spoke about the lack of information and dissemination of economic knowledge and access to programs for poor communities. This gap in access and information still exists to some degree today. Organizations like my Dream Commission aim to collectively address and change this..
Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your business?
Our Mission:
To educate, empower, and inspire the next generation of dreamers to achieve economic freedom through financial literacy, the creative arts, and social entrepreneurship. Inspired by Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.’s “bootless man” speech on Black economics, the Dream Summit is committed to breaking down barriers to economic opportunity for all. We believe that everyone deserves the chance to succeed.
We specialize in financial literacy programming for municipalities, institutions of higher learning (IHLs), and communities through our “Dream Summits.” These events bring together celebrities, educators, and financial institutions to create innovative forums that inspire and connect people to resources promoting economic and entrepreneurial uplift.
In 2024, we hosted the nation’s first financial literacy reading fair competition with LeMoyne-Owen College, an HBCU. We hope this model will be adopted nationwide to stimulate economic empowerment in future generations.
What sets us apart is our commitment to collaboration over competition. We build effective models to be replicated, focusing on the collective goal rather than personal fame. Our mission requires that everyone working honorably to empower poor communities has a seat at our table.
Do you any memories from childhood that you can share with us?
My favorite childhood memory is my father attending nearly every event I had and my mother having me recite positive affirmations every morning. Their presence and encouragement instilled in me the belief that anything is possible.
