Meet JCM

Today we’d like to introduce you to JCM. Them and their team share their story with us below:

JCM was founded a little over a decade ago in 2011 by Shari Barnett and Rickia Lucas. But prior to JCM’s foundation, divine fate was already orchestrated for these young ladies to prepare for their ministry beforehand.

Both young ladies have been friends since elementary. They graduated from primary school, middle school, high school, went away to two different colleges and both came back to graduate together from The University of Memphis in 2010. They’ve always been servers of their communities since their teen days and are now serving their greater communities in multiple ways via their ministry and business JCM Inspires.

JCM has become one of the hottest new Inspirational Duos and their aim is to use God-given gifts of “joyful compassionate melodies- in which the JCM acronym stems from- to bring about a positive change worldwide. In a world that can often seem dismal, their mission is to heal souls and improve the quality of life via inspiring and enlightening others. They are known for their mixture of pop, rock, and urban twists on Inspirational music. One of the group members said, “We are definitely Contemporary Artists. My best friend has those smooth pretty girl vocals.

When you add that to a vibrant rap flow, it’s like Fire& Ice!” Coming from a secular music group with their high school friends entitled “C.H.I.C.” (short-lived) to become an inspiration to others is truly a life-changing experience because they chose a more positive route to push their gifts & talents in order to help promote and manifest positivity in place of music that can be considered weaponized. One of the group members also said, “This transition has truly been well worth it because we’ve become inspired and enlightened in the process of inspiring and enlightening others.”

Beyond the dynamic and unique music style is their passion to inspire others via teaching as well as incorporating their niche of motivational speaking and other inspirational products. JCM initialized its first SOS Youth Rally in 2015 to help combat and bring awareness to youth crime victims. Now, they host an annual Gala Extravaganza in which proceeds are donated to local organizations that help improve low-income and poverty-stricken areas. They believe that “Love Conquers All”.

And from the comfort of their hometown of Memphis, TN, JCM is planning to take the world by storm by expanding their ministry globally! Many things are changing in the world around us. Yet, the fact that JCM is here to stay, remains the same! #BeInspired by #JCM

Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall, and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
It has not been a smooth road. JCM has faced many struggles including what they believe to be spiritual and physical battles. In the process of finishing their debut album, one of the group member’s moms passed away due to complications of a terminal illness. It was tough beyond explanation. Yet, they continued to push forward. They also experienced the lack of support at an all time low. It seemed that people were more into secular music than something uplifting and inspiring. To JCM, this was a huge obstacle and an opportunity.

JCM decided to see the glass as “half full” instead of “half empty”. It was time to strategize and showcase many other talents. Rickia of the duo is a rapper and Shari is a singer, but through planning and wanting to feed the word to the youth and young adults. It was vital to get vocal lessons and learn to become versatile. This is when they opened up the variety of genres to reach those who were connected only to secular music vs. Inspirational. They overcame the struggles over time and also pushed to be more social media inclined as that is where everyone was headed.

Financial obstacles also arose. JCM found themselves staying up later and waking up earlier to expand their gifts and improve their work ethic in order to provide more quality to the industry. Through it all, JCM considers the tests as their testimonies to tell others to never give up and keep their “Head to the sky”, the title of a single on their debut album.

Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?

What was your favorite childhood memory?
JCM’s favorite childhood memory together is being creative writers, drama club members, spending time with their mothers -who have been their biggest inspiration-in high school. During their senior, they remember competing in the city-wide Drama competition and beating members of Overton High School’s Thespian club. They went to state with their English teacher and trainer “Coach Patterson” in which they both came home with awards in their respective categories. This is a memory that they will never forget!
