Hi Jesus Chuy, thanks for joining us today. We’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
Jesus Velazco Jr, or better known as Chuy. Mexican/American born and raised Memphis Native. Son, Father, Entrepreneur, Coffee enthusiast and Creative artist, who fell in love with art from a early young age. That being through photography and creating art in various mediums. An outlet to express emotions, feelings, and message through art.
From beginning years inspired from graffiti, adapting SLKR. A tag name that later has become a part of who I am as an artist. Hence JVSLKR. Emerging in graphite realism and color pencil art, as well building a brand VXBRZ representing positivity. Present time, bringing art to life through tattooing at an upcoming tattoo shop Ink Therapy 901.
Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
As with any goal, there has been major setbacks to major accomplishments. Having personal life occurrences can cause a lot of questioning within yourself, creating creative block, but above all you learn to adapt and conquer what the universe wants you to grow and learn from. Life is a beautiful journey we have to embrace in order to flourish. Surround yourself with strong likeminded people. That’s something I can say that has helped me continuously evolve.
Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
Artist at heart, from photography to specializing in mix media graphite and color pencil realism artwork. Emerging in the tattoo world. Currently tattooist at ink therapy 901 under mentorship of David Yancy III. Continuous evolution in technique, style, and skill. Quoting “bringing art to life”. Bringing the ideas of clients to life. Expressing their stories through art. In the most beautiful way. Building bonds in the moment in time. That being from fine line, realism, or any form that is brought upon.
So, before we go, how can our readers or others connect or collaborate with you? How can they support you?
I started a brand, called VXBRZ. A brand for the community to bring positivity through art. One of the big visions and goals I have is too collaborate and support one another through VXBRZ. Through clothing and future endeavors. Branching into something big for the city of 901. Bringing more positivity.
