Today we’d like to introduce you to Ka’Dedrick Richardson.
Hi Ka’Dedrick, please kick things off for us with an introduction to yourself and your story.
From the Gridiron to Guiding Financial Futures
I was born and raised in the south part of Memphis, where sports shaped much of my youth. Football, in particular, played a central role in my life, but I always balanced athletics with strong academics. My playing career took me across the country—starting at Fullerton College, then Western Illinois University, and ultimately finishing at the University of Memphis, where I earned my degree in Finance.
Even while playing, I knew I wanted more than a “normal job.” I wanted a career that allowed me to help others and create impact. That mindset led me to the financial industry.
After my playing career ended in 2023, I began my professional journey at Fidelity Investments as a Financial Representative, where I passed my first securities exam. Later that year, I expanded my expertise by obtaining my life and health insurance licenses and worked independently in insurance sales.
In 2024, I joined Northwestern Mutual, where I gained two additional securities licenses and further developed my skills in financial planning. By early 2025, I transitioned to my current role as a Wealth Management Advisor with MassMutual and MML Investors Services, obtaining another securities license along the way.
Today, I do business under BigPlay Wealth Management, my newly formed practice dedicated to helping individuals and families plan for life’s goals and major events. My philosophy is simple: to make big plays in people’s lives through thoughtful and strategic financial planning.
Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
My journey has come with its share of adversity, but those challenges have shaped me into the man I am today. Transitioning from life as a full-time athlete with dreams of playing professionally to building a career in the financial industry was not easy. I often credit the lessons I learned on and off the field—discipline, resilience, and teamwork—with shaping the way I approach business and serve my clients
Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know?
My practice specializes in holistic financial planning, using a combination of investment strategies, insurance solutions, and fee-based planning to act in the best interest of my clients. I enjoy building strong relationships with other professionals and serving as a resource through networking and collaboration.
I focus on working with professional athletes, business owners, W-2 employees, 1099 contractors, entertainers, and anyone seeking comprehensive financial guidance. In addition, I strive to be a resource and advocate for collegiate athletes, drawing from my own experiences as a former student-athlete.
At BigPlay Wealth Management, my goal is to help clients make big plays in planning for their goals—just as I once made big plays on the field.
What does success mean to you?
I define success as achieving the goals you set for yourself and using that foundation to help others reach theirs.
