Meet Kamecha Wilson of Memphis TN

Today we’d like to introduce you to Kamecha Wilson.

Hi Kamecha, so excited to have you on the platform. So before we get into questions about your work-life, maybe you can bring our readers up to speed on your story and how you got to where you are today?
One night before bed,I told God I wanted to do something that no one else in the cosmotology industry was doing….I heard “nail school”. At that time laws weren’t put in place for free standing schools. Out of the blue, I received an email from State Rep. Antonio Parkinson about a cosmotology meeting, whereas they would be making big announcements.
In that meeting, the Executive Director of the board announced that free-standing schools was now an option.
I took my idea & implemented a nail school. Reaching out to the executive director, I found out that absolutely no one in the state had opened a nail school & I would be the 1st to do it. We’ve been open 8 yrs now as the 1st school.

I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
2020…the start of covid, has changed things drastically. We’ve had students who’s hours were reduced or just ultimately loss jobs, therefore, enrollment was down, because students couldn’t afford tuition, compared to our first couple of yrs.

Thanks – so what else should our readers know about your work and what you’re currently focused on?
Our students are a part of history. We’re the 1st free-standing, full-service school, in the entire state of TN. No one else had a school, it was my idea ! We’ve educated over 500 students in our 8 yr tenure.
Because of my idea, my business breeds other businessess. We have so many, now licensed nail techinicians, that own their own salons, all over the city & surrounding areas, are in salon suites, & have stopped working in corporate america to work for themselves, providing for their families, while doing what they love.
We’ve partnered with major companies like Staleks Pro & Inglot were as we will be introducing our own tools (nippers, files, cuticle pushers, etc. & also our natural nail polish) this year !

How do you think about happiness?
The fact that God chose me to make history in my state, my city, my community, my network.
I’ve been a licensed nail technician since’98. I love all things nails.
I was given a key to the county & a proclamation by the Shelby Count Board Of Commissioners
And God continuing to send people/students (male & female) my way to help make life altering changes, for the them & their families says to me that this is were I’m suppose to be. God gets all the glory. He keeps on….looking out for me !
