Meet Kendrick P.

Today we’d like to introduce you to Kendrick P.

Kendrick, we appreciate you taking the time to share your story with us today. Where does your story begin?
Born & Raised in Memphis. East Memphis Whitehaven & Orange Mound area are where I spent most of my life at. Born into a musical family, I was intrigued with music as far as I can remember. My grandfather is a pastor so the church was a major part of that growth. He had my hands-on with the music at the church, so I learned to play several instruments such as the drums, piano, & I can practically pick up anything and figure out to play it.

Although I didn’t understand it then I’m so grateful for that experience because that was the foundation of my understanding of what music really is. From all of his, my mom, and my favorite artist, I took all of that and tied it all in one sound. I started producing and I fell in love with the creative process from there I started to sing more. When I hit my senior year of high school, people knew that I had a secret talent. My principal at the time made sure to get me in a choir that year to keep me from trouble.

From there, I learned how to really use my voice and fell in love with it all. I ended up singing in our talent show with Chelsey Barnes and that was all I needed to know the stage life was for me. I graduated not too long after and that winter I dropped my first project entitled “MUSex” and never stopped from there. Been through some tuff times but, 8 years later my team and I are constantly growing and building our own lane out of the city.

Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
Musically, I’ve made a lot of mistakes not knowing how to make the most out of it all. Dealing with the wrong people & listening to all of the outside noise of what you should do for yourself. It’s a process of learning to hone into the full potential of YOUR purpose you know?

In 2014, I had a song entitled “Australian Kisses” that did well enough for me to take things to a next level. I was just passionate & felt I had something special to give to the world. I lacked knowledge of where the music industry was at that point. As confusing as it was I figured out that marketing is the most important factor in growing your brand. It took me years to understand why & how to utilize it properly.

Of course, life took a few turns for the worse outside of music but through it all, I never gave up. Those struggles created some of my best music. don’t think anything that’s worth having is easy. It all comes down to how bad do you want.

Thanks – so what else should our readers know about your work and what you’re currently focused on?
I am an R&B singer with my own Hip-hop twist. I play a few instruments. I’m a very wide-ranged songwriter who is simply working to bring a different sound & energy from our city.

I’m most known for my songs:
“Australian Kisses”
“Fallen”
“Come Correct”
“Those Jeans” & “Where the Love at”
They know When KP touches any track
It’s going to be something special.

The thing I’m most proud of as of now is my team. Out of all these years, I’ve got the right people beside me that understand what I’m here to do. Memphis’s music scene is primarily TrapRap & Hip-hop. There’s are only a few of us pushing R&B I set myself apart with my unique cadences & the stories I tell. From love, pain, happiness, struggles & triumphs.

We have trap artists that tell great stories as well. I don’t see my approach being replicated in any way.

What are your plans for the future?
We are just working nonstop to show the world that Memphis has so much more to offer than Trap Music. Pushing strong positive energy and love for my city The way things are going I plan to be elevated to the next level or step. Whatever that may look like I know we’re heading nowhere but UP.

More music, more videos, and shows locked in. You will definitely be seeing a lot more of KP.
