Meet Kenneth Cunningham of Bartlett-Memphis area

Today we’d like to introduce you to Kenneth Cunningham

Hi Kenneth, please kick things off for us with an introduction to yourself and your story.
We began our ministry in the movie room of our home with just 8 people. We were committed and passionate about our vision to become an oasis of hope and love in our community and present Jesus in a way that would attract all people of our generation. We have successfully built a ministry and community of people who embody that identity and are even more concerned with spreading that culture throughout the Memphis-metro area and beyond.

Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
Not smooth at all. We had denominational backing, no spiritual planting system, we had no funding or facilities to begin with. Everything was being produced from the ground up. So there were some financial struggles, leadership struggles, and even stability struggles. There has been identity issues, acclimation struggles, and city appropriation issues as well. We had to transition from Marion, AR to Memphis, TN basically starting over from the ground again in a new city. Then adapting to that new city with our style of ministry was a struggle. But, we did it with the help of God.

As you know, we’re big fans of you and your work. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about what you do?
I am a Pastor, a man of God. I specialize in people edification and the continuous perfecting of believers. I am known for teaching, preaching, and spiritual leadership. I am most proud of my ability to appropriate my faith as a creed for my own life and not just a career. My family, children, and personal life reflect my beliefs and support the validity of the Christ I preach. What sets me apart from others is my vision. What I see for the city of Memphis, is what burdens me build the type of spiritual citizens that create the community I believe we are meant to have.

What do you like and dislike about the city?
What I love most about our city is the history, legacy, and creative culture that exists here. We are known for impacting history through music, arts, entertainment, as well as socially and spiritually. Memphis has played a major role in civil rights activism. The largest African American Pentecostal denomination began in Memphis. The foundation of blues music was born here. So we have made history and are purposed to make more. What I like least about the city is lack of comprehensive integration and collaboration on all levels. And I dislike the negative complexion given to our city through news and media only highlighting crime.
