Today we’d like to introduce you to Kerry Jones.
Hi Kerry, thanks for joining us today. We’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
When I first started in music it was when I was about five or six. I was listening to Tupac in the car and felt something and wanted to know what was this unique thing I’m hearing. I started getting into music from that moment on from rap, to rock, gospel, r&b, you name it I was into it. I attended church as well so I was in the choir, and the school choir as well. Towards 2016 is where I truly found my passion and began writing more heavily than before. Like something just kept nagging me to write every day. Around that time I recorded my first song and since the rest is history as they say. I got to the point of doing shows out of state such as Tampa and Seattle. How I got here was I worked and connected with people. I have my days like it won’t work out I should quit and stay at my job all of that. But I have friends and peers in Music who push me to be better and not give up on myself.
Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
It has definitely not been a smooth road. At times I felt like the train was going off the rails. Some of the struggles I’ve had was more at the beginning than now. In the beginning, you don’t have as many people supporting you and little to no encouragement from anyone because this isn’t their thing or dream it’s yours. But if you can push past it you’ll find people who support you and believe in you more than you believe in yourself at times. Another struggle I’ve had was relying too heavily on other people to get things done. In this business of music especially being an independent artist, you have to learn a lot of things on your own and get good at them. One so you’re more valuable to your industry and the market place and two to cut costs down on things you can do yourself. All it took for me was Google research and a decent iPhone camera to start doing things.
As you know, we’re big fans of you and your work. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about what you do?
I am a songwriter, producer, and hiphop creator. I’m most known for my art under the moniker Krisiz Jay (it’s crisis but with a “K” and “Z”) I’m most proud of my last year’s 3-weekend showcase I put on in my city all independently funded by me. What sets me apart from others is my ability to adapt and change. Some people don’t like change or learning new things or are even adaptable to situations but throughout the years of doing this business and learning I’ve become more adaptable more willing to change and much more knowledgeable.
So, before we go, how can our readers or others connect or collaborate with you? How can they support you?
I’m always available and open to work with anyone. They can reach me in my email bookingkrisiz@gmail.com and we can always get a collaborative effort going. People can support me by going to any of their favorite streaming platforms and stream my music or they can always get it directly from www.krisizmusic.com
