Meet Maria Hoskins

Today we’d like to introduce you to Maria Hoskins.

Hi Maria, so excited to have you with us today. What can you tell us about your story?
While looking for a book at a local book store, Pyramid Art Books and Custom Framing, to read to children for Sunday School, “I looked and looked, but I could not find the book” or the type I wanted to read.

I was hoping to find a book that did not have Santa Clause or the Snowman as the main character in the book. After searching with no luck, then getting the assistance of the owner, Garbo Hearne to help me research, there was no book that met the criteria that I wanted. That is when Garbo Hearne challenged me to write the book.

If I can not find the book, just write the book. And I did, and that was why I started writing children’s books. I always had a love of children’s books, as I have two daughters, Christina and Victoria, who both loved stories, one who would read a lot of books, and the other, who has special needs, who I had to read the books to.

Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
I have enjoyed being a children’s book author speaking at schools, libraries, and other youth-related programs.

Learning the publishing process was a new learning experience. However, I wanted to learn the process, so I could produce quality books that children and parents would love to pick up my books and read,

Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
I have worked as a Community Outreach Specialist for the Federal Government for over 20 years.

10 years for United States House of Representatives, U.S. Congressman Vic Snyder, 2nd Congressional District of Arkansas, and over 10 years with the Department of Justice, I enjoy the work I have done and currently do, working in communities across the State of Arkansas and sharing information to keep communities safe, not only in Arkansas but other locations in the U.S.

What sets me apart from others, maybe that I am dedicated to my faith, family, and community, as I work to share information to help keep our communities safe, as well as write positive family stories, that will continue to be shared even after my time on earth has passed.

If you had to, what characteristic of yours would you give the most credit to?
The most important qualities for me are, to be honest, treat others as I would like to be treated, be faithful, think before you speak, and in all things, seek God’s guidance.
