Meet Maya Harvey

Today we’d like to introduce you to Maya Harvey.

Alright, so thank you so much for sharing your story and insight with our readers. To kick things off, can you tell us a bit about how you got started?

Hi, my name is Maya Harvey and I am 24 years old. I grew up in Rochester, MN. After high school I joined the US navy reserves and then when I was 20 I moved to Memphis. Growing up, I was the person to plan things. whether it was a family vacation or a party, I wanted to be involved. While I was growing up I watched my mom create a Non-profit that is now global. I guess by watching her, it didn’t seem too scary to create something of your own. So, fast forward a couple of years and now I am the owner of Events by Harvey. People who have known me for a really long time were not shocked that I started to do this. I have always been very independent, creative and curious.

When I got engaged, I immediately started planning my wedding. I had everything booked within the month. That was because once I put my mind to something, I will get it done. A few of my friends were also in the planning stages and reached out to have me help through the process. I was thrilled to be able to plan their weddings but I didn’t have any plans to create a business out of it. After all of our weddings ended and all the kind comments I was receiving, I thought to myself, “maybe I could do this as a job.” So, I started the tedious but necessary journey of getting my LLC, insurance, and certifications. After I completed all that, it was time to start advertising and now here we are, a year later and I have 25 weddings on the books for 2023!

We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
If anything, the struggles were internal. Memphis is filled with amazing and talented female entrepreneurs and I would constantly put doubts into my head that I would not be able to compete with them. It was not until I started reaching out to other small businesses asking if I could leave some of my business cards with them that I quickly learned that these female-owned businesses were not going to be “competitors” they were going to be supporters.

The road became even more smooth when I hosted my first content/styled shoot. The vendors that came were full of positivity and support for my business and helped me break through my self-doubt.

Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know about your work?
My business specializes in event planning. I offer full wedding planning, day of coordinating, and special events. I pride myself on my knowledge of the industry, my time management, my quick thinking, being inclusive to all, my eye for details, and my ability to think outside of the box. I do everything I can for my clients. I will be their planner, their friend, their hype girl, a shoulder to cry on, and most importantly the one who will make sure their wedding/event is of their dreams and more.

I think what sets me apart from others is my package itself. I offer a lot more than most in my packages while still staying in a reasonable price range.

Let’s talk about our city – what do you love? What do you not love?
Definitely, the small business owners like me and the vast amount of venues. There is a venue for any price point, guest count, and any vibe someone is wanting here in Memphis.

Something that I do not love about our city is the commute. When I was living in Rochester, going from one side to another took maybe 15 minutes and now I am usually in the car for 30 minutes to 45 minutes going anywhere!

Pricing:

  • Starts at $400
  • Can be up to $2,500
  • I often run flash sales though!
  • I offer discounts to military and first responders.
