Meet Mercedes Burchett

Today we’d like to introduce you to Mercedes Burchett.

Hi Mercedes, so excited to have you with us today. What can you tell us about your story?
I initially started creating wire-wrapped pendants at the beginning of the pandemic. That was a really tough time for me mentally and emotionally. I needed something to take my mind away from the reality of things so I opted to try a new craft.

I sucked at it for a while. Lol, but I was determined to keep trying. Eventually, I had so many pieces that I just started giving them away to friends and family. One day I got a message from someone who saw a piece my friend was wearing and asked me to create one for her.

I was terrified and in full disclosure, I told her that I was very new and I wasn’t sure how it would turn out. She trusted my vision and gave me a full creative range. I made the piece and she paid me 33.33. I’ll never forget it. It was inspiring to know that someone else saw value in my pieces. After a while, more people began to inquire, so I created an Order Form. That was short-lived and I eventually decided to create a website.

I did well for a few months, met alot of new creatives and forever customers. Then things slowed down a bit. But it was much needed for what was about to happen. In June of last year, Teresa Morcho, a beautiful spirit on TikTok, shouted out my brand. That video went viral twice and I completely sold out of every piece that I had. Lol, I was SHOOK! LOL Talking about it still blows my mind.

I had over 1000 orders to fulfill and thank God for my partner and my sister because they were there with me pushing these orders out. I gained more views and more supporters and honestly more responsibility. I would talk about my back story and to hear that I wasn’t alone felt reassuring.

I’ve gained so many spirit sisters and brothers during this period. I am just grateful for all that has happened. And what has yet to come.

Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall, and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
It’s been a roller-coaster. I work a full-time job and try to give my business full-time action as well.

It is very hard being in so many roles at one time. One of my biggest struggles at the moment is work/ life balance. I love creating and sometimes I am so focused on creating that I forget there is still a life out there to live.

It’s so easy for me to get lost in my pieces because they’ve always been where I felt the most peace and the freest.

Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your work?
I create, what I consider, Luxury Healing accessories. I work with crystals and copper wire to create designs and styles that people could enjoy wearing every day and for special occasions.

I am most proud of the fact that I will be celebrating 2 years in October. I have started many projects before and never saw them through. I am so proud to say that I have finally stepped into my purpose. What sets me apart from others… well, these are my hands, my emotions, and my energy going into each piece.

I think that’s the magical part for any artist. Your work sets you apart because it’s you doing it… wire wrapping has been around for centuries. There are so many different styles. My style is more refined, as refined as copper manipulation can get with just my hands and a few tools.

Can you tell us more about what you were like growing up?
I was a very creative kid. Very lovable. I wanted hugs and I wanted to be around my family all of the time.

My room was always junky because I colored, and I wrote books and poems. I was a very sensitive kid. And adventurous. I wasn’t afraid to try anything at least once.
