Meet Nadia Matthews

Today we’d like to introduce you to Nadia Matthews.

Hi Nadia, we’re thrilled to have a chance to learn your story today. So, before we get into specifics, maybe you can briefly walk us through how you got to where you are today?
I started writing, producing, and directing stage plays at the age of 16. Being a producer activated my entrepreneur journey. Being a writer helped me develop curriculums, business plans, etc.

Being a director helped me become an acting coach for kids. Writing, producing, and directing my stage play at 16 was molding me into owning and running LilyRoze Studios. I later opened LilyRoze at the age of 22 and we just celebrated our 10 year anniversary.

To be a renowned organization using events to change the lives and minds of people, LilyRoze envisions people of all ages and cultures coming together, unified, and empowered by bringing awareness through the arts, creating and formatting how we live, and grow in our communities.

The Mission of The LilyRoze Foundation, Inc. is threefold: To holistically transform lives by helping young people face demanding and challenging situations with strength and enthusiasm. To teach youth through the medium of art how to be good and conscientious citizens. To create inventive material revolving around communal issues and values relevant to the lives of all people.

Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall, and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
Every blessing comes with a challenge. Being a young business owner, I had to learn through experience. I had to learn through tests and trials, failures and mistakes. I had very little knowledge of accounting, building a team, and a work/life balance. Experience has been my greatest teacher.

Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know about your work?
I run a 501c3 non-profit LilyRoze Studios just celebrated its 10th year in business (Brick and mortar) I write, produce, and direct original stage plays. Most of which have sold out. Our summer program shoots a movie every summer that premieres at Malco Studio on the Square.

We have served thousands of youth in the mid-south. I was deemed by Tyra Banks the “Goddess of Hope and Riches”. Our studio really makes students feel like they belong, they can come in and be themselves in a warm and friendly environment.

We’re always looking for the lessons that can be learned in any situation, including tragic ones like the Covid-19 crisis. Are there any lessons you’ve learned that you can share?
Yes, I learned that life is short, life can change so you must enjoy every day. It helps to love what you do. I also learned that I’d love to have a product based business as well.
