Meet Nikki Devould of Dancing In A Line (D.I.A.L.) Fitness

Today we’d like to introduce you to Nikki Devould.

Nikki Devould

Hi Nikki, we appreciate you taking the time to share your story with us today. Where does your story begin?
It all started with health issues. After 2020, I didn’t move or get out as much as I used to. The next thing I knew, I had high blood pressure, I was pre-diabetic, and I had no flexibility, just one thing after the other. I knew I needed to get moving, but where to start? I enjoyed line dancing, but the classes didn’t fit my schedule, so I took a chance and asked if I could teach my own line dance class at Smoothies and Fitness. I felt like teaching the class would help hold me accountable. My first class was on June 12, 2021!

Can you talk to us about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned? Looking back, has it been easy or smooth in retrospect?
It hasn’t been easy at all! Sometimes, I just wanted to lay around the house and have a “lazy day,” but I stayed consistent with showing up even when I didn’t feel like it. Trying to keep current with the latest dances presents a challenge because I’m a homebody, too, but I have a friend who’s a DJ who keeps me informed of what’s popular.

Let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know?
Line dancing is great cardio, but adding light weights and resistance bands makes it even more of a workout. D.I.A.L. Fitness offers a fun, cost-effective way to start one’s healthy journey. Our in-studio classes start at $5! And we love it when new students come to class and are shocked by how much they sweat and get a real workout in just 1-hour. Classes are Tuesdays 7-8 pm and Saturdays 1-2 pm inside Smoothies and Fitness at 6041 Mt. Moriah Rd., Suite 8, Memphis, TN 38115.

Is there anyone you’d like to thank or give credit to?
My two daughters, R (14) & B (12), deserve much credit. They assist me with learning the dances, teaching the line dances in class and at private events, showing the tutorials, and creating captions for our social media posts, and they act as photographers/videographers. A big shoutout to my most loyal regulars, Kim Scott and her daughter O; they show love & support like none other and have become real friends to me and my girls! And all the people who have come to class or hired us for events.
