Today we’d like to introduce you to Robert Anthony
Hi Robert, so excited to have you on the platform. So before we get into questions about your work-life, maybe you can bring our readers up to speed on your story and how you got to where you are today?
It all started when I had to stop my lawn care business due to some unfortunate events and summer was ending. I knew I needed to find a job or start a different business. I asked myself, “What skills do I have that people would pay well for?” The first two things that came to mind were sales and marketing. Well you can’t sell sales or market marketing, you can offer these skills as a service to businesses.
That’s exactly what I did. I realized also that businesses not only want to be visible to their audience but also need to attract and convert them into customers. My goal became clear: help businesses get seen and ensure they have an attractive online presence that sets them apart from their competitors.
Although I knew how to build a website, I didn’t know how to create one that converts visitors into customers. So, I started learning by watching countless videos and seeking advice from anyone who could help. A trusted person I knew told me, “You are never going to be ready enough to start.” Taking that advice to heart, I jumped in.
When I first started, I offered my services for free to get reviews, referrals, feedback, and ultimately build a portfolio. This approach worked very well. As my confidence grew, I began telling everyone I knew about my new venture, and I started seeing real progress.
Building my portfolio allowed me to start charging for my services, although I kept my rates low initially. After completing a few projects and gaining more experience, I gradually raised my rates to match the market standards. This strategy proved successful, and although there were some other notable events along the way, this journey has brought me to where I am today with Memphis Designs.
Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
It has definitely not been easy. My biggest challenge has been overcoming the doubt people had about me because of my age. Many saw me as just a young kid rather than a business owner, and therefore didn’t trust me. People were often shocked when they saw the quality of my work and what I could deliver. They didn’t expect someone my age to perform at that level.
Another major challenge has been dealing with the consequences of bad advice I received in the past. This experience taught me the importance of listening to those who are wiser and more experienced. I could have avoided many mistakes, saving both time and money. However, I see these experiences as valuable lessons—I’ve paid the price to learn and grow.
I’ve also faced other notable challenges, such as financial issues at the start and managing multiple projects simultaneously which I have learned to deal with these. These experiences have taught me a lot and continue to shape me to this day. I still deal with new struggles everyday.

The quality I feel is most important to my success is consistency and perseverance. I believe this is 10000% the key factor. Running a business comes with its fair share of challenges and setbacks, especially when you’re starting out young. It’s my determination to keep pushing forward, staying consistent in my efforts, and learning from my mistakes that has been crucial to my success. Consistency and perseverance help me stay focused on my goals and maintain a high standard of work, no matter the obstacles I encounter.
