Today we’d like to introduce you to Rowdy Franks.
Alright, so thank you so much for sharing your story and insight with our readers. To kick things off, can you tell us a bit about how you got started?
I honestly got a late start compared to my peers. I didn’t realize my passion for music until about two years ago when I was nineteen. I played campfire-style guitar and sang for my friends on rare occasions as early as seventeen.
However, it wasn’t until two years later, after I played my first bar gig, that I realized this was something I wanted to do. Ever since that day, I’ve been writing songs, playing shows, and working as hard as I can to be the best musician I can possibly be. Right now my band, “Rowdy Franks & The Strays” is my main focus.
We mostly play in the Mid-south and Delta regions of the United States but of course, we are looking to expand. At the end of the day, I just love to play. My goal is to wake up and be at least one percent better than I was the day before.
I’m sure you wouldn’t say it’s been obstacle-free, but so far would you say the journey has been a fairly smooth road?
Between breakups, failures, and even a debilitating illness that left me bedridden for a whole year.
I’ve definitely had my fair share of ups and downs. Each one of these experiences has changed my perspective on life and I think that’s made me a better person and writer.
So I’m very thankful. The most exciting thing is that I’ve got a long road of ups and downs ahead of me. So I won’t be short on life lessons.
As you know, we’re big fans of you and your work. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about what you do?
I pride myself on my artwork.
My medium is music and within that, I focus heavily on Vocals, Guitar, and writing. But just like any artist, I like to push my boundaries by trying the unconventional, so I study any and every style or instrument that will help me make something new and exciting.
If I had to label my sound I would say it consists mostly of Soul, Blues, Southern Rock and Bluegrass. But these things aren’t always set in stone. This year marks the beginning of my second year in pursuit of being a full-time musician.
So you can expect a lot of change and growth throughout the next several years.
Can you share something surprising about yourself?
I can be extremely shy and reclusive at times.
I really struggled with social settings throughout my adolescence. Music has most definitely blossomed my willingness to open up to the people around me in these past 2 years.
