Today we’d like to introduce you to Ruchika Seth.
Alright, so thank you so much for sharing your story and insight with our readers. To kick things off, can you tell us a bit about how you got started?
Hi! My name is Ruchika Seth, founder of The Style Palette. Born and raised in India, but call Memphis, TN my home for 20 years (and counting!) with my always encouraging husband and two beautiful girls.
Growing up in India, and as a Textile Designer, I have always had a deep passion for design, color, and fabric. As a designer, I have experience in the construction of fiber to fabric in various weaves, its design elements, textures, color, dyeing, and printing techniques, and their role and application in the industry.
In 2015, I started The Style Palette! As a small business owner, I have strongly believed in women’s empowerment from day one. We inspire each other on day to day basis. I believe all women deserve to feel confident and beautiful, in the style that fits their personality. And I want to help every woman feel that confidence in their unique Style!
When I’m not giving fashion styling tips, I am either busy being a wife and mom or I’m holding a paintbrush to a canvas, letting my creative mind take control. Art has always been a part of everything I do, and I’ve decided to incorporate artwork with fashion, and combine it into one! I am now introducing artwork on paper, canvas, and textiles.
Both art and fashion have reached new extents in these times, but they still both have the power to bring people together. The multi-skilled artists and the wardrobe stylists have more in common than a person might think, so drop a follow on my Instagram @stylepalettefashions to follow along on my journey!
Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall, and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
After I finished school, I started working as a freelancer in India and teamed up with several local boutiques. Coming out of school and starting my own business gave me pride and confidence to grow and explore. This opportunity gave me a chance to start designing my own fabrics at a young age, using the various techniques I had learned. As we all know, life is not always a smooth journey, it has its ups and downs.
In 2000, when I got married and moved to the US, one of the many challenges with my career was having limited to no opportunities in my field of Textile Designing in Memphis, TN, and my work came to a halt. Being an artist, I was not able to convince myself to stray from my love of designing. So while looking for some opportunities as a textile designer, I earned a two-year diploma in Interior Designing.
I started transitioning the fabric designs that I had collected throughout the years to canvas. In 2015, when I decided to start my own business it was a challenge at first. It was not easy to gain clients, bring a new product into the retail market and put myself, a women entrepreneur out in the world. I started with fashion; the textile part, and in 2020 I brought my artwork into the picture.
As you know, we’re big fans of you and your work. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about what you do?
Growing up in India, I’ve always been around textiles; it’s an old family business. I’ve always been curious about the design, its form, how the colors are made, and how patterns are created. I realized this is the path I want to take. Printing is a big part of my business now. I like to print on different fabrics, create new seasonal things, and always try my best.
I am proud that one of my main goals is to incorporate traditional Indian motive designs in most of the work I do. I always have a clear vision of what I want to design, and its outcome. A few of the many handmade things in my collection are block-printed scarves, bandanas, bags, table runners, pillowcases, custom artwork, and much more. When an artist or a creator sells what they have created it is the happiest feeling of all because someone out there loves your work as much as you do.
In 2015, the Style Palette was born out of my love for fabric and color, It was then when I started selling scarves but years later in 2021, when I started creating handmade things using my skills and art, I realized that combining art with fashion is something which sets me apart from others. I can proudly say that now you can find Style for you and your home at The Style Palette!
Alright so before we go can you talk to us a bit about how people can work with you, collaborate with you or support you?
I love all my customers and friends dearly, and the ones who have supported me since day one hold a special place in my heart. I am slowly inching my way back into Interior Decorating by creating handmade decor for your home and would love to work with local Interior Designers to bring a sense of happiness into people’s homes.
On the style side, I have been collaborating with some amazing local fashion bloggers and influencers that I am happy to call good friends. I look forward to working with them, and other women, in the near future.
I also have my products at a few local stores, and I would love to meet more entrepreneurs and businesswomen to increase partnerships and friendships.
