Today we’d like to introduce you to Summer Tadlock.
Summer, we appreciate you taking the time to share your story with us today. Where does your story begin?
Started on YouTube back in 2010 when nobody watched YouTube except for cat videos! At first, people thought I was so weird, then once it became a respectable career people took it seriously. I started making money and all of a sudden everyone around my small town was noticing.
I was in the local news, newspaper front page, my yearbook printed a whole page about me. I guess you could say I was an original “influencer” before there was a name for it. Now, I create fun and unique videos on Instagram and YouTube for all my best friends. I work with brands and provide them with content and advertising needs. I work for myself. I am hardworking and driven. It is a dream job!
The point is: Never let someone tell you that you don’t deserve what you want. If I would have stopped because I cared too much about what others thought, I wouldn’t be doing what I love right now!
Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
Definitely not! I graduated from Mississippi state university with a degree in communications concentrating in broadcast journalism. I became a news reporter right out of college working for a station in my hometown of Mississippi. I loved the news, but it didn’t love me back. It is a very emotionally mentally exhausting job and I was too soft for it.
I was miserable for a year and a half suffering from extreme medical symptoms from the stress I was enduring. Finally, after a lot of prayers, I decided to leave. Have you ever felt your dreams die? It is devastating. I felt lost, hopeless. Then I remembered I have one life to live and I want to live it doing something that lights a fire in my heart. I decided to go back to the only true love that was there all along.
Creating and producing editing video content for all of those I have never met, but have accepted and loved me anyway. I truly love being a content creator, and it is never as easy as people think, but as long as I have creative freedom, I am truly living.
We’ve been impressed with your content, but for folks who might not be as familiar, what can you share with them about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
I create high-quality Instagram videos and pictures for brands all across the world.
I work with all thing’s beauty and fashion related and I share what brands I’m loving, I’m wearing, and I’m using in my everyday life. I provide use rights for all of my work so that brands may use it for all of their advertising needs.
Most importantly, I am creating work that truly sparks joy in my heart.
Can you talk to us about how you think about risk?
Yes! Wow, I have taken so many.
I basically walked away from a reporting position to become unemployed because that’s just how unhappy I was. I ended up making the right choice because now I get paid to do something, I am so passionate about.
The risks are always worth it. If you are comfortable where you are, you are not growing!
