Meet Tessa Blakney of Silk N Honey Permanent Jewelry

Today we’d like to introduce you to Tessa Blakney

Hi Tessa, we’re thrilled to have a chance to learn your story today. So, before we get into specifics, maybe you can briefly walk us through how you got to where you are today?
My journey in retail began at a young age with part-time jobs while studying at Northwest Community College. I originally launched Silk N Honey as an online boutique while working at Kohl’s, where I learned a lot about customer interaction and merchandising. During the pandemic, I seized the opportunity to focus on my business full-time, and in 2020, I opened my first brick-and-mortar boutique. In 2022, I attended a permanent jewelry event with a colleague, which sparked the idea to bring this experience to Memphis. I loved the timelessness of clasp-free jewelry and the connections it represented, so I launched Silk N Honey Permanent Jewelry (formerly SNH Linked) to offer this unique experience. It’s been an incredible journey ever since!

Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
It’s definitely had its challenges! Marketing was a big learning curve—I wish I’d prioritized it earlier. Managing finances was also tricky, but I took courses, hired an accountant, and sought help with social media. Reading Profit First had a major impact on how I approached my business finances, providing valuable insights that helped me grow.

As you know, we’re big fans of Silk N Honey Permanent Jewelry. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about the brand?
At Silk N Honey Permanent Jewelry, we specialize in creating permanent, clasp-free jewelry like bracelets, anklets, rings, and necklaces. Each piece is custom-fitted and welded directly onto the wearer, creating a lasting keepsake that symbolizes shared moments. What makes us unique is our focus on the experience itself—we’re not just offering jewelry, but creating memories. I especially love creating meaningful bonds for family members and friends, from mothers and daughters to siblings and couples. Building a brand around genuine connection and personal expression is something I’m truly proud of.

Where we are in life is often partly because of others. Who/what else deserves credit for how your story turned out?
I’ve been so fortunate to have incredible support. A close friend helped brainstorm the name Silk N Honey, and my family and friends have been my biggest cheerleaders. I’m especially grateful to my amazing clients—those who supported me from the beginning have been instrumental in my journey. I also want to acknowledge the wonderful Memphis community, whose love for our brand has made every challenge feel worthwhile.
