Meet Tierra Malone of Memphis, Westwood Area

Today we’d like to introduce you to Tierra Malone.

Alright, so thank you so much for sharing your story and insight with our readers. To kick things off, can you tell us a bit about how you got started?
It started in high school, around my 10th grade year, when I learned how to sew in class. I came home excited, telling my grandmother all about it,and without hesitation, she bought me my very first sewing machine. I still have that same machine today, and it means everything to me because that’s where it all began.

What started as curiosity quickly turned into passion. I began practicing, learning, and creating more on my own.First, simple projects, then gradually taking on more detailed work. Over time, people started noticing and trusting me with their pieces, whether it was alterations or custom designs.

That’s how Sewed Up With Tee was born in 2025. I built my brand around quality, creativity, and making sure every piece is done with care. From hand-stitched details to quick turnaround times, I take pride in giving my clients exactly what they need, and sometimes more than they expect.

Today, I’ve expanded beyond just sewing. I teach beginner sewing classes, offer custom pieces, alterations, and even upholstery work. What once started as a high school lesson has grown into a business that allows me to serve my community, express my creativity, and create opportunities for others to learn the craft too.

Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
Not at all, lol it definitely hasn’t been a smooth road.

Like many small business owners, I’ve had to learn everything hands-on. In the beginning, it was a lot of trial and error figuring out pricing, time management, and how to balance quality work in a timely fashion . There were moments where I underpriced my work, overworked myself, and had to learn the hard way that my time and skill are valuable.

Another challenge has been dealing with inconsistency;slow seasons, last-minute clients, and people not understanding the work that goes into custom pieces and alterations. Setting boundaries and putting policies in place was something I had to grow into.

I’ve also had to invest in myself, whether that meant upgrading equipment, learning new techniques, or stepping back at times to sharpen my skills. That wasn’t always easy, especially while trying to maintain and grow the business at the same time.

But every challenge helped shape Sewed Up With Tee into what it is today. It taught me discipline, confidence, and how to stand firm on my worth. So no, it hasn’t been smooth, but it’s been worth it

As you know, we’re big fans of you and your work. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about what you do?
I offer all things sewing, alterations, custom pieces(custom hats being my biggest thing right now), beginner sewing classes, and now upholstery. I specialize in clean, detailed work with a strong focus on fit, quality and just creating head turning pieces .

I’m known for my ability to pay attention to details, creative skill, and consistency,my clients know they can depend on me to get the job done right. I’m most proud of turning a skill I learned in high school into a growing business, while also being a vessel to my community by teaching and creating opportunities for others.

What sets me apart is the care I put into every piece and the experience I provide. I don’t just sew,I create and make sure my work speaks for itself.

Who else deserves credit in your story?
I definitely didn’t do this alone.

First, I have to give credit to my grandmother, she’s the reason I even started. When I told her I was learning how to sew in school, she went out and bought me my very first sewing machine. That moment planted the seed for everything I’m doing today. My family is a blessing, they motivate me and keep me focused.

I’m also grateful for my clients,my “Sewed Up Divas and Kings”,who continue to trust me with their pieces, refer others, and support my business. Their loyalty and belief in my work has played a huge role in my growth.

I’ve had support from people around me who encouraged me to keep going, invest in myself, and take my craft seriously. Whether it was words of encouragement, referrals, or simply showing up, that support has meant everything.
I love them for that!!
It truly takes a village, and I’m thankful for everyone who has poured into me and Sewed Up With Tee along the way
