Annie Herron

Hi Annie, it’s an honor to have you on the platform. Thanks for sharing your story with us – to start, maybe you can share some of your backstory with our readers.
In 2008, I discovered the captivating world of henna design, its intricate patterns, and a siren song to my artistic spirit. Drawn to its impermanent beauty, I eagerly volunteered to be a festival artist for a friend launching a henna business. Witnessing the joy henna brought to others ignited a passion within me. Sensing an opportunity, I took the reins in 2018 and established Henna House 901, a brand reflecting a fresh new look. While several other artists, including my friend, continue to collaborate during peak seasons. I also expanded into private appointments, fostering some of the most beautiful friendships with clients who return regularly for their henna fix.

We all face challenges, but looking back, would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
Like any business, we’ve faced challenges. The most significant hurdle was undoubtedly the COVID year. With festivals canceled and in-person interactions limited for almost two years, we had to adapt quickly. We offered virtual henna tutorials and pre-made kits to stay connected with our clients, ensuring they could still enjoy the art form at home.

As you know, we’re big fans of you and your work. For our readers who might need to become more familiar with what you do, what can you tell them about what you do?
As a well-rounded artist with experience in drawing, painting, and design, I’ve always been drawn to exploring different artistic mediums. However, henna truly captivated me with its ability to create beautiful, temporary adornments. I’m known for translating a client’s vision into a unique henna design. Whether incorporating their favorite flower or a special symbol, I love collaborating with them to create a piece that reflects their style. What I’m most proud of is fostering genuine connections with my clients. Witnessing the joy on their faces as their unique henna design unfolds, a design that embodies their vision is advantageous. It’s a constant reminder of the power and magic this art form holds. Our commitment to using only fresh, natural ingredients I mix genuinely sets us apart.

We’d like to hear your thoughts on luck and what role, if any, you feel it’s played for you.
Undoubtedly, luck has played a part in my journey with henna. Perhaps encountering my friend who was launching a henna business in 2008 was a stroke of good luck. Her guidance and willingness to give me a chance as a festival artist molded my skills and ignited my passion for this beautiful art form.
