Today we’d like to introduce you to April Woodson
Hi April, we’re thrilled to have a chance to learn your story today. So, before we get into specifics, maybe you can briefly walk us through how you got to where you are today?
My name is April Woodson I’m 23 years old currently from East Memphis Tennessee . I was raised in a military based family where they took me to see a lot of new surroundings around the US. I went to Germantown high school where I was introduced to GHS TV from 10-12th grade. That production program taught me all the skills I know today. We worked very hard and very long weekends where we interviewed local people around the Mid-south. I had to work my way up to being a videographer because they were used to women being in front the camera not behind the camera. Also during that time, fashion became another skill that I picked up from being with GHS. We always created new outfits on budget and made it work even when it came to reusing old material. I use those skills in my everyday life in which I know you don’t have to spend your all just to look good. I learned as far as creativity and just working behind the stage theatre lead me to this new version of myself and just seeing it first hand how everything on the outside got to where it is today. That program really showed me the television side of reality and the how long days and nights of dedication we put in to make vision come to reality. My mom and grandparents are my biggest cheerleaders and they see the potential I have to one day be able to work with many creators around the world when dealing with fashion, photography, and just one day opening my own production company about all types of content to show people that Memphis isn’t as bad as it look.
Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
I can say that nothing Comes with no challenges. Some of my struggles were just trying to find what really fits me. I came to the realization that I’m different from others and that I specialize in many different categories.. Being able to invest in your dreams has been another struggle that has made me realize if you really want it you’re gonna have to take sacrifices.. From having to start from square one with no camera equipment and figuring out ways to make extra money with involving my passion i’ve definitely thought about giving up along the way.
As you know, we’re big fans of you and your work. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about what you do?
I am an upcoming content creator and photographer in Memphis Tennessee. I specialize in finding hidden gems around Memphis or local parts of the south. I am known for my Creative content on finding different places for local tourist that come visit Memphis or just surrounding areas I am very proud of the different activities, hobbies, and eateries that I have come across while doing my research in the area. What set me apart from others is that I make everything look like a good time and you’ll definitely want to go and visit and try it out.
What has been the most important lesson you’ve learned along your journey?
The most important lesson I’ve learned during my journey is that you can’t rush success. Even though other people have a different path from you; you can’t compare yourself to what everybody else is doing. Although times get hard never look back on the bad things and always keep positivity. At the end of the day you have to just move forward the best way you can and keep pushing !
